Default 2001 Honda S2000 for $10k? Was in a flood... Thinking about buying

Anyone have any experiance repairing flood damaged cars?

What all is normally need to be repaired on them? I am assuming it has a salvage title because its an insurance claim car.

KBB says the trade in value for this car in fair condition (the lowest condition it will price out) is just over 16k.

What do you guys think?

Any Salvage car shouldn't go for more than about half of the reg. price of the car, so $10k would be decent, provided it's been repaired.

Would have had to have the interior probably replaced, rest of the car may have made it out ok save for a real complete cleaning. Given it surely wasn't running at the time of the flood the engine and electronics "should" have been ok after drying out.

I supposed if I was going salvage I would rather have a flood car than a trashed car, still iffy though.

how many miles? almost no salvage s2000 is worth 16k in my mind.... but $10k is maybe ok.

what kind of water? fresh water or sea water?

I have heard of the water slowly eating away at the electrical system and creating nightmares for people........ what are you going to do with the car?

I paid $10k (roughly) for a no title fire damaged S2000....it only had 7000 miles on it or so.... 2001 model.

i wouldn't bother with a flood damaged s2000 unless you are planning to tear it completely down and then rebuilding

here in WA salvaged cars usually sell at 65-85% of the retail price, all done and repaired, depending on the demand or customer...

I heard flooded cars usually have engine problems later on, but that depending on how bad the flood was..

knowing that this car was in a flood some of its damages/problems may not be as easy to see as opposed to a car that was hit. Find out what kind of flood it was in and how bad it was, see if it runs/drives, findout the prices on the parts you need and see if its worth it...
obviously if this car is going to cost you 14-15k and its worth 16 not damaged its not worth it with a salvaged/rebuilt title

note:I seen a 2003 S2k here sell for 8900 it needed the whole front ...

If the motor cranks and runs than you would be fine, you should be worried about the wiring instead of the motor.

unless you have electrical wiring knowledge, i wouldn't touch it, cars of this nature, in a flood require the whole harness to be redone

couple of things to remember with a flood damaged car, some things may differ from honda to other manufacturers but............
we had a ram towed in to our shop (gwinnett place dodge) that had been in a "flood" basically exstensive water damage. the car's vin was flagged and warranty voided. every computer/controller in the car had to be replaced, even after this it had very odd electrical problems. the interior smelled like someone died inside the truck and it had cloth seats.

if this is going to be stripped down and used for a race vehicle sounds like a good deal, if you are prepared to strip it, clean it, rewire/replace a lot of stuff, and have a car with absolutely no support from honda go for it!
