Default clutch questions

the other day, i noticed that when i stepped on the clutch pedal at only 1 inch(after free play), i could shift gear easily without any grinding. i thought that it was only mine but i tried a friend's car with similar cluch and his is doing the same thing also. is this normal? i always thought that you have to step deeper, like close to the floor before you can shift gears.

lastly, please refer to this http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/C...4.pdf. what does the "clutch disengagement height" mean? does it mean that from the floor and to about 3.11" from it, the clutch is disengage and you can shift gear and higher than 3.11" the clutch is engage or engaging?

by the way, i'm using exedy organic clutch.
