i was thinking of getting a set of agx's for my 89crx si...whats ur guys opinion....should i get non adjustable bilsteins instead(really want koni yellows but way 2 much $$)?Any input would be awsome
Btw:i have ground control coils

What are the spring rates on you GC. If high >400 don't get AGX. If <400 I think you'd be safe with AGX.
I had AGXs on the Prelude (now starting a Project EF Si) and was happy with them on the street but race you need a better shock
If race then get Koni, ect
If street then get AGX.

errr....the gc's were on the car when i bought it....it doesnt say anywhere what the spring rate is...does it?.....i really want koni's but they are just too much $$$
im running AGX with GC coilovers 375f 450r with no problems. if you run your suspension within the specs of the strut your all set.
most likely your GC coilovers are there off the shelf rates. call GC to find out what that is....i can't remember... or seach HT for the answers. im pretty sure its under 300lbs.
i really like my agxs they seem to give me a good amount of support in hard cornering and are very streetable when used at the recommended height. 1 to 1.25 inch lower than stock.
love it!

Pros:
- inexpensive for an adjustable "sport" damper
- can handle up to ~400-450 lbs-in spring rates okay
Cons:
- shitty warranty
- can only handle up to ~400-450 lbs-in spring rates
- not rebuildable/revalveable, unlike the more versatile Koni Sport
- it's not a Koni Sport

AGX-290 (from ebay)
Koni- 475 (from sponsor forum)
Illumina - 325 (from ebay)
So, if the agx's or illuminas blow, you pay for the price of either the front or rear, whichever blows. This would be about 145 and 162, respectively. The konis also need to be revalved in pairs, which will cost you about 200 per pair.
Either way, konis are more expensive in every aspect. But the performance may make up for it, but i have no experience so i won't speak on that subject.
Anyways, it doesn't really matter what you buy so long as it's a street car. Just use or modify your own top hats if you're so worried about them blowing prematurely.

Koni's too much? LMAO Obviously you don't buy good stuff then. I went with some weird company name.... Starts with an S and ends with an A.... They were painted yellow and covered with a blue spring.... I dunno why but theres the name of an eating utensil on it.... Fork I think....

how low do you plan to ride?
i'd try the bilsteins before i'd koni again. and bilstein has front struts for the 86-89 accord (shorter strut), unlike agx or koni.

I had the agx's on a 2000 si with 450front and 350 rear weapon-r circuit pros and they sucked. They could not absorb any bumps and bottomed out too much on any setting. I switched to the illuminas, and they were so much better, absorbed unexpected pot holes, kept the car on the ground, no nose dive, made it real stable, and never bottomed out, kept them on 4 front/rear. definately getting them again.

That's odd, i've had agx/illuminas and they both performed about the same. I know that the illuminas are two way adjustables though, but i'm not so sure about the AGX. Anyways, one reason why it might not have bottomed out as much (which shouldn't even be the shock's fault in the first place, your car is just too low or the bumps are too big, hah) is because the illuminas (not sure about AGX) allow you to control both compression and rebound. This is kind of a retarded concept, as compression is supposed to be the job of the spring. So you turn up your illums to 5/5 and it's taking over the job of the spring. What happens is that you hit a bump, and instead of the spring's 450 lb/inch taking the impact, your shock adds a little bit to that spring rate with it's own.
So if the AGX's don't have the same rebound/compression adjustability, then this should hold true. If they do, well, i don't know, my experiences were VERY different.

Well I have never had a problem with agx's but my car isnt "stunna dumped" so my struts work.
I think most peoples problems is to much of a drop.

because if the car is lower than 1.5 inches or the springs are above a certain rate the warranty is void.
Konis are better shocks, but agx can handle most mild suspension setup well.

ok, well car manu' will void warrenties on your new car if a) you race them b) you modify them...
whats the point...
if you dont follow the warrenty then its your fault. i have agx's and im using springs that will not void them. so i STILL have a LIFETIME warrenty...
