I just sold one and I don't think there is any way of telling if it's a 2001.

If there is a white sticker on the tranny, it should say the VIN number. The 10th digit should be a 1, if the model year is actually 2001. To make sure it's a GS-R, it should say DC2 or DB8 in the 4-6th digits.

10th Digit model year - for example, Jh4DC2390YS... would mean it was a 2000 model GS-R.

R: 1994
S: 1995
T: 1996
V: 1997
W: 1998
X: 1999
Y: 2000
1: 2001

It should be labeled Y80, but I think I read that S80 was used in the JDM SIR-G B18C, while the USDM B18C1 used the Y80.
