Default Another one of those bad idle threads plus vtec, lma, bogging HELP *lots of searching*

*Kind of lengthy, Just really want some responses on how to fix it*

Alright guys, this whole thing started when I put an LS/VTEC w/ gsr tranny in my 93 Si. Block: B18a1 balanced, shot-peened ls rods, ITR pistons, itr water, oil pumps. Head: '89 b16a1 head, freshly resurfaced, b16a2 TB/IM, Hondata IM gasket. Few mods: AEM fuel rail, fuel pres guage, kenji chipped P28.

Anyways, got the swap in fine, but immediately had strange idle problems. when I started the motor cold, I would get the usual bouncing idle from around 800-1700rpms.
After it warmed up, it would settle at around 1500. took off the FITV, screwed the wax back in, then the same thing would happen, only now it settled at around 1100. IACV has been cleaned, no sign of a vacuum leak.

Another strange symptom is that when I tap the throttle, the revs will go up as normal, then drop to 750, and go back up to 1100 or wherever it feels like idling.

The motor also tends to bog at low rpms when cold and runs rich at start up.

On top of all this, I'm getting code 22 vtec oil pres switch. When ifirst start my car, it doesnt comeon, but after it runs for about 30sec to a minute, it will come on.

Furthermore, there is a loud, intermittent clicking from the head. Sounds exactly like what ppl have described as bad LMA's. the noise only happens at around 800rpms when cold and will move up to around 1800rpms. it can ONLY be heard when the engine hits that rpm, and there are several distinctly different clicking sounds that happen similtaneously.
ive already done a valve adj. and the noise wasnt reduced at all. pushed down on all the lma's and they all move freely and with a uniform amount of resistance. can they still be bad even if they feel like they are moving freely?
The other thing ive noticed about this noise is that when I take free way on ramps and other sharp turn at high speeds, I can hear the noise momentarily no matter what rpm.

Cliff Notes: Bouncing idle which settles at 1100 after warmup, code 22 vtec oil pres after 30 sec. of running motor, bogging at low rpms when cold, LMA? noise. HELP

I have bad LMAs, and I have intermittent clicking until VTEC engages. As for your Idle problem, I'm not sure what could cause that.

Maybe you plugged in your map sensor incorrectly?

Do you have an oil pressure switch? Maybe its bad and if this is in an EG then run a wire from A4 to D6 and that will bypass the switch. No need for it in my opinion as there is a reason that JDM motors dont use it. Plus I had the same problem with the Kenji ECU in my hatch because my motor doesnt use the switch.

Idle problems are more than likely because of the ECU too had the same problems but only when the car got warm. Just adjust the throttle screw a little. Fixed mine but not the way I like. My car now idles at 500 but if I go any higher i get surges. All related to most chipped ECU's.

Fixed my problem. The spark plugs were not gapped correctly and the tips of the plugs... (The ends that screw down) were unscrewed on 2 of them. So I gapped them, scred the ends down and cleaned them.

I hope everyone else's is as easy as mine.
