Default b16 block with b18 tranny

im getting tired of the b16 on my daily driver (crx w/ b16a1 Y1 cable). so im thinking about getting a b18 cable tranny. has anyone done this? i realize it won't be as fast but im willing to sacrafise for a better ride. i was just wondering if anyone has done this and will i need to get a different clutch?

You can use the same clutch but I think your acceleration will suck.

the acceleration will still be better than a stock b18 though right? i guess what im asking is will it suck overall or will it just suck for a b16?

the besty trannys are the s1/ys1 those have pretty close ratio gears. The one really sucks is the A1 it has very very long gears. (GOOD FOR TURBO, SOMETIMES)

well actually im after longer gears. im tired of driving at 3100 rpms at 60MPH and having to yell at my girlfriend overtop of the roaring engine.

S1 and YS1 are the same right?

what are your RPMs at 60 and 70 MPH?

is your car still pretty fast?

it not worth the transition. youre gonna loose so much power. when you shift at high rpm's (vtec engaged) and shift you fall flat on your face out of vtec. my buddy has a ls tranny on his b16 (in an integra) and i walk on him all day (even spinning hard thru first and second). i have a b18a with the ys1 tranny.

honestly i dont think its worth it. but its all up to u. good luck on whatever you choose

its VTEC

You car will fall flat on its face between high rpm shifts. Hey at least yours isnt like mine 4700rpm @ 80mph.

so if i would have that tranny your saying when i shift i would go down 3000 RPMs? that doesn's sound right to me i would think you would still be in v-tec.

the S1 tranny is not gonna be much different than your current tranny.
If you want the taller gears you need the A1 tranny.

i think it will lower my 5th gear RPMs by about 400. i ran my engine to were the new RPMs would be and it sounds ALOT quiter. 2800 is alot quiter than 3200. i hope it will quiet it down without losing too much acceleration.

basically my decision is to keep my paid for, self built rex or go a few thousand dollars in debt and buy a 94-01 integra ls. im thinking right now since im in college it would probably be better to put that tranny on and start saving my pennies and be happy with that until i graduate and then by a nice new honda

The USDM s1 and a1 both have longer gears. The JDM s1 on the other hand, is not what your looking for.
