Im trying to adjust the shock sensor in my car and I want to know which way I should turn it to make it more sensitive.
Here is a pic of an extra shock sensor I had laying around just to show you.
As you can see, the number indicates where the screw is
-- in this case, it is turned all the way to the right.
Btw, the alarm system that I have is the DEI Valet model 554r.

oh and I posted in the EG forum and not the audio/security section because it moves too slow and I have always had good responses from this forum.

I'm sure it's clockwise for more sensitivity and counter-clockwise for less. At least that's how my python is (also made by DEI).

alright, thanks for the reply.
Do I have to like reset anything after changing the sensitivity?

no you dont have to reset anything. the most important thing to remember though is that the shock sensor needs to be mounted on wires and not to anything solid. i mounted mine to the ignition harness. it works great.

Mine is zip tied on the steering column, so i guess thats solid.
Why shouldnt it be mounted on something solid?
BTW - Best Buy installed it.

dei designed the sensor to be more efficient on wires. i install for circuit city and have been doing it for about 4 years now. thats probly why yours isnt that sensitive. try zip tieing it to the ignition harness and let me know how that works

ok when looking up under the dash. it will be a group of wires that are pretty big compaired to the other wires under there. there will probly be some wires from the alarm attached to some of them. if it was done by best buy they will probly have used t-taps(lol). that is your ignition harness.
good **** i have the same alarm mine is also attached to the steering column and it sucks ill try the harness.
for an almost meaningless thread

Yeah, it should either warn or a full trigger. Tap on it and see if the LED lights up red. It will do this with the alarm armed or not. If it doesn't light up, replace it.

I surely hope that your not doing that with the some of the newer alarms for example: the new Viper 350HV and ones like it. If the shock sensor is built in it needs to be mounted to a soild surface.
The stinger (external shock sensor) can be mounted to the ingnition harness, but I prefer in a kick panel its easy to get to and often times looks more cleaner. You can also double sided stick tape it to a panel or something along those lines.
Just to let you know the shock sensor won't go off if the car is shaken, its set up to go off if the car is hit. Don't set it so high so when cats run on your car or a ricer drives by it sets the alarm off.

I have never had a problem with T-taps, maybe you dont know how to use them or maybe your using the wrong brand. 3m is what I use, never had a any problem related to a bad crimp or poor t-tap connection or even having a t-tap come off.
