I need to make some kick *** torque and horsepower from the sohc vtec. I have heard many nagtive things about the jr s.charger. and I dont want to turbo because of the lag. I was thinking going all-motor because I think I can get the most torque that way. Keep in mind that I am working with an auto trans that is going to be beefed up. Any good ideas or pointers would be awesome! Does anyone know websites that I can buy forged internals for the d16y8?

You think wrong. Not only will you get more torque with a supercharger, turbocharger or nitrous oxide, but you'll spend a lot less and get a lot more horsepower along with it.

And the Y8 isn't the best candidate for all-motor torque creation.

Ok, I dont want to be a dick but you're going about this all wrong. Modding a d16y8 to make massive torque and horsepower NA is like buying a quadrapalegic hooker.....it just dont make sense.

First off, save yourself some time and money and go buy a greddy turbo kit. Tweak it a little bit and you will hit mid 13's if you can drive. It will get there quicker and cheaper than doing NA.

Second, ditch the auto. Honda auto trannys are junk. Example, there are about 6 or 7 turbo D16y8 99-00 coupes in this area. One is an auto. Every other one is a 13 second car. The auto cant bust out of the 15.1 range.

Now, after everyone on here telling you to not go NA d16, let me give you some advice if you still want to do it. Be prepared to spend money. Lots of it. And dont expect many gains at any one time. You will get HP little by little. Nothing NA is going to make a huge difference in your car.

yea i have a d16z6 on my sol and im in the same boat as you. so i went turbo, in the middle of getting parts now so we'l see how it goes.

 

The Y8 is a fantastic platform for SOHC turbo applications and, if you check some of the SOHC turbo threads in the FI forum, you'll be able to see the massive hp and tq these cars can make with a little tuning and a turbine .

If you don't like it here why even post? And to the guy who created this thread If I were you I'd invest in an engine swap. LS swaps are pretty cheap and provide decide horsepower and torque with minor bolt-ons. For the money you spend to supe up a d series engine you would wish you would have gone with b-series. DOHC rules.

also check out http://www.homemadeturbo.com if you really wanna stick with your d-series and save some money. You will have to have mechanical knowledge to piece together your own turbo kit though

No alot of the time I've noticed that mods get pissed because people don't search in advance. There is almost every question you could possibly want answered in the archives. This is more of a constantly upgraded library of information and that has been my perception of this site

Yeah well there's prob a reason that he's a mod maybe like he knows alot about what he's talking about not that he thinks that he's cooler than anyone else. You just take things way too personally. i think you're right. you get like a whopping 2-5 hp and maybe 2-4 torque with it!

edit: not to be off topic anymore- yes, a turbocharger, supercharger, or NAWS is your best bet at making your super horsepower haha. if you want to save money, putting together a custom turbo system isn't a bad idea either. many people do it here on H-T and if you want more info on it, SEARCH IT because there are countless posts about it.
