Default What happens to your odometer when you swap in a different guage cluster???

Just curious if it goes back to the mileage from your old car or does it keep the mileage on the new guage cluster?

It adds on the mileage on the new cluster.

Nothing happens. Whatever the new cluster says before you put it into your car is what it will say after you put it in. It's a mechanically driven odometer...how is it supposed to change its reading?

I'm just kinda suprised how easy it would be for someone with 100,000 miles on their car to buy a cluster with maybe 40,000 miles and then turn around and sell their car for thousands of dollars more.

You can go in the odometer and physically change the numbers around, just like in the trip odometer which is designed to make this function much easier. Either way, it is easier than most people think to change the odometer reading.

yeah, but this is illegal (fraud)...
also, this is why you register your car every year and report your mileage.
if you sell it and suddenly it has 60k miles less than it's supposed to, you're
bound to be found out...

if you can't swap out the odometers, then have the new one rolled to the same mileage as your old cluster....
