Engine Rebuild Input Wanted
Here's the question: Have a 98 ITR that's just barely hanging on (leak down test is pretty bad). Does anyone know of any reputable engine building shops in North Carolina? I'll need the engine head and bottom end work. I've been give some prices, but would also like to know a good ball park number to make sure I'm getting a fair deal. Anything else I should have done??? I know of Sunbelt in Georgia does most engine work...
Thanks in advance....
Thanks in advance....
I've had good luck with T-hoff in Raleigh.
They are a good machine shop, but I suspect if you have the $$ they will be happy to tear it apart and do what it takes to put it back together right.

Dennis Shaw in Raleigh apparently does really good work. His shop if called Raceworks or something like that - he's next to Krause and England. David Stone had his engine rebuilt there...expensive but good. Much like Sunbelt only closer.
If I find his contact information, I'll post it.

Jon - Lemme get this straight... you're asking your future ECHC competition about rebuilding your engine... that has "bad idea" written ALL over it.
Celica73 -> T-hoff, I'll look into this place...thanks!!!
Shultz -> I've heard of Raceworks, but just didn't know anyone that had any work performed. Some of the places I contacted (i.e. Walt Puckett) said they would tear everything down, then ship it out. Thanks for the input!!!
Diane -> Good point, but I would hope most competitors would want to win on there driving ability (or at least I do), and not the car. That's why I am always open to tell anyone what has been done to the car.
PS -> I wonder if the car will be able to make one more event before everything is done....Hmmmm!
Thanks again!!!

I'd tow it to OPM. Seriously.
They have an impeccable reputation and they build Honda race cars that win. Their prices would be about the same as anyone elses, so that's not an issue.
And oh yeah... you'd be supporting an ECHC sponsor.
Worth the drive in my opinion (and they'll let you leave the trailer there).
Scott, who's motor is torn down at OPM right now.

Actually, I hear the CVCC 1200 CC engines from late 70's Civics are stout and put out far more power than a stock B18C5. I bet you could get one from a junkyard for much less than you'll spend rebuilding your motor.
You can thank me later.
(OK, just trying to help you ECHC guys out. Starnes is a bastard too, we all know it
)
Mike, who is far from helpful on the subject of Honda motor rebuilds, but just ask me a BMW motor question and I'll be all over it like white on rice. Or ask me about my busted rod bearings.
PS - what is the cause of the excessive motor wear?

I'll second that one about OPM.
I wouldn't even dream of taking any Honda, especially a Type R to any other place. And you'll know why when you pay them a visit and get back your car.

Hmmm! I have no idea what could cause the excessive motor wear. I guess shifting at 10K still on WOT. But then again the incident at CMP back in March/April didn't help matters.
