Default Type R Intake manifold

I know the skunk 2 is a "replica" of the type r but is the skunk 2 any better?

How come you say it outdoes the Skunk2 in power??? Are there any dyno sheets to prove this??? I'd like to know since I'm considering getting one in the next couple of days.

endyn reworked s2.. http://www.theoldone.com

specifically:
http://www.theoldone.com/articles/badtothebone/

stock s2 "type-r" manifold

"Our manifold preparation for one of these engines begins with a Skunk2 casting. We cut the plenum in half to facilitate the porting and plenum reshaping."
link to large: http://www.theoldone.com/artic...2.jpg

stock/ported

"When I tell people that these manifolds weigh as much as 2 lbs less when we're finished, they think I'm kidding. Believe it. We rather dramatically alter the runner volumes, cross sectional areas, window shapes, and plenum entry geometries in this rework."
link to large:
http://www.theoldone.com/artic...1.jpg

finished manifold:

"Here's the semi-finished manifold interior. The runner roofs are now shorter than the floor, by exactly the ports' dimensional differences. Note the inverted radius we achieve at the upper runner-to-plenum intersect. With the plenum side in place and a 64mm throttle body, this manifold will out-flow the best individual throttle body combination we've ever tested."

don't plan to buy one, but would like to see results of the effort. RLZ offers the same service.

I tested the AEBS IM against the ITR IM on my ITR with Skunk Stage 2 cams and Hondata. Both manifolds were tuned. The AEBS picked up about 2hp in most of the upper rpm band. I still run the AEBS today.

i would like to see a skunk2 vs aebs manifold dyno, last year i saw a skunk2 mani vs itr mani and the skunk2 got 2whp more on top end, but this was on a stock jdm R motor.

I'm interested because I think it could be a pretty cheap DIY mod for some people with access to alu. welding. I'd be interested to see what a ported mani. would do the powerband on a fairly stock and modded set-up.

ill telll ya somethin. that 2whp can probably be 5whp or more if that POS casting was tossed for something like S2 or ITR casting

get that sucker ported!

ITR for comparison

I like the power the aebs manifold makes, its a little better than a type R, But.....
The quality of the unit is less than that of oem, skunk, and the wicked models. The casting is kind of rough and you have to be super carefull when mounting the trottle body. If you mount it to tight, the threads will crack and you'll have an air leak and fluctuating idle.

endyn (www.theoldone.com) gasket matches the s2 manifold.. and also matches the manifold to a 65mm jg edelbrock tb... i'm guessing they could do it differnt size if needed too..
