World's Best Road Course
Since people were posting road courses in the 'best drag strip' poll, lets have a proper poll on the matter. Road racing only, please. (Don't post 'snow-covered Scandanavian road in the WRC')!

I know the left coasters can't really get there...but seriously, VIR is awfully damn good. Other than the 'ring (which obviously many of us will never drive) this seems to be about as good as it gets. The track is phenomenal and the facilities are outstanding.
There's more pro and spectator events all the time at VIR...I get the feeling that I'll be telling my grandkids that "one time way back, I drove that track a lot." It's that good.

Another vote for VIR!
Some quotes from VIRs website:
"One lap at VIR is like 100 at Watkins Glen"-Carrol Shelby right after winning the first feature race in 1957.
"Comparable to the Nurburgring..." -I forget, you can look it up.

I think I'd like to see Watkins Glen on that list.
Until I've driven the Glen, Road Atlanta, and VIR in the same year in the same car, I can't really say which one is *the* best.

PS- Daytona? A friggin 'roval'?

The first person who tells me what's wrong with that sentance wins a mystery prize.

In the US VIR has the best facilities, BUT Watkins Glen has the best track. The first time you go through turn 2 and then up the hill through the esses and realize you are wide open and there is armco on both sides you can almost visualize what a pin ball can feel like if you screw up. Plus there is a slight rise or bump near the top that gets the car light and it moves about a foot drivers right. Knew a guy who did just that in a vette with 2,000 miles on it. Not a single panel on the car survived. 3 armco hits with a starting speed of around 130. OUCH.

People in the know seem to really like Road America. It is referred to as a classic. Hmmm. Gotta get up there some day.

So what's my prize?!?
Because how could you have driven that track a lot if you've only driven it one time?

Geez! What about Limerock?
I am probably the only one here who has ever been to Bridgehampton on Long Island. It is a golf course now but some of the pavement is still there. That track ad a mile long straight - and it was flat. The Can Am cars were hitting 200+ on it.

There's a guy in Charlotte who moved down here from New York a few years ago. He can't speak 3 consecutive sentences without mentioning Bridgehampton. Must of been a great track.
Perhaps we need another poll: Tracks we wish were still in existance.

The Glen is good. Very good, in fact. I would like to go back someday. But it's no VIR.
Interesting that nobody has mentioned Mont Tremblant yet. I was told that THAT was the best track on the continent, though I haven't driven it myself yet.
