Yet another Mobil 1 thread
I was running Mobil1 10w-30 in my fresh LSVTEC. I had to replace valve seals after 6k miles or so because they went bad. I've heard several bad things about Mobil1 10w-30 in VTEC engines... I'm back to OEM Honda oil. I'm not positive that my valve seals went to **** because of the M1, I'm just not willing to chance running a thin synthetic oil again.

I brokemy motor in with non detergent. ANd now use Mobil One 15w 50. I love this oil. But that is just me. Also has anyone seen Mobil Ones new oil designed for inline four motorcycle engines. Designed for the abuses of 10,000+rpm is what the bottle says. It is a syntehtic 15w 40. And it is $8 a quart. Wonder how this would be in a B series motor.
Well I can say this. I used to run 10w 30 mobil one as well. And when I switched to the 15w 50 mobil one my oil consumption was cut in half.
I think 10w 30 even though the factory suggests it is to thin for our high strung motors.

mobil one 5w/10w-30 is a thin synthetic. it is an ACEA A1 motor oil for fuel economy. it is a GF-3 oil satisfying CAFE fuel economy requirements, thereby recieving the "energy conserving" label..
viscosity at 100C is 10.0cst
high temperature/ high shear number is 3.06.
castrol syntec 0w-30 (made in germany, available at autozone) is an ACEA A3 motor oil designed for high performance/ extended drains. it is not a GF-3 oil and does not have the "energy conserving" label. this oil also happens to be the only over-the-counter 30 weight motor oil available at common auto parts stores that is porsche approved.

Why would I want to run a 0w30? If 10w30 M1 was too thin, then a 0w30 seems it will be a lot thinner. Why not a Castrol Syntec 10w30?

If you need to run 50w to keep from burning oil you might have bigger problems, thats really thick ****.

Amsoil is a great oil, ive been running theyre XL7500 5w-30 and no complaints at all. Havent burned a drop and when i pull my dipstick its still nice and caramel covered even after 2k HARD miles. I am however switching over to the new Mobil 1 0w-30 racing oil for my trip to the dyno and fontana this coming weekend. If you are going to get the amsoil oil, and you drive your vehicle hard, i reccomend getting the 'servere service' type.

Sounds like he knows what he is talking about and I agree 100 percent.
Casrtol Synthetic 10-30w is the only thing I will use. I have never had a problem with anyone of my cars or friend cars to date... and we push them very hard. Wont even think about using anything else.

Not intending to pick on anyone but around 15,000 miles is the recommended x-over to synthetic. New motors have seals that arent seated fully, rings that arent seated fully, and other parts that need to bed in. Synthetic slips past, cokes from heat of abuse and blows seals.
If its a race motor intended to be blown up in 5000 miles then go for it, but if youre seeking any longevity out of your build, i would put a few miles on it before switching

next time you get a chance look at the back of a mobil1 synthetic oil bottle..it says its approved for high rev japanese vehicles, not that many oils say that they are..either way keep your oil full, clean and use good filters and you shouldnt need to worry..unless your going around town drag racing everyone you see..hehe

how can you say no?
im unsure on what to run aswell.. so many choices.. i had been using royal purple. must research! it seems like every brand of motor oil has a pro import that they are sponsoring that is running fast!
