'97 Accord V6 Tach Jumping & Power Surge
Hi,
I own a '97 Accord V6 that has an annoying problem. Within about 5 minutes of starting to drive the car the tach will start jumping around and the engine power will surge. When this happens the engine RPM's do not match what the tach indicates. The strange part is that I will drive the car for about an hour with this going on, then stop driving anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, get back in and start driving and the problem will go away for the rest of the day. I notice that it seems to be worse on days when it's humid, or raining. Sometimes the tach will be jumping around like crazy, but the car's power will be fine. Other times, I'll gun the car to get on the highway and the transmission will downshift harsh, the motor will hesitate and then the power will come on abruptly.
I had two mechanics look at it and and neither of them was able to diagnose the problem, or find any fault codes in the computer. The second mechanic thought the tach might be bad, so I had him replace it, but the problem hasn't gone away. I have also recently replaced the plugs and wires and that made no difference either.
Has anyone heard of this problem? How do I make it go away?
Thanks

hey i own a 96 accord v6 i had the same problem. You have to replace your ignition coil. Its located right under the cap. It's like 80 bucks for the part. Or if you wana better you can get MSD and the MSD coil for better spark and gas millage.
