JDM ITR's and CTR hatchbacks
Werd up, im in the process of saving for a ITR (USDM) and was curious if anyone knows much it costs to get a JDM ITR or CTR hatchback imported to the states from japan. also when a JDM car is imported to the states does it have to pass emissions and smog tests before entering. If anyone has info on this or has a JDM ITR or CTR HB for sale, please let me know. thanks
A friend of mine (local shop owner) has a few RHD JDM ITR's for sale. The car is in near perfect condition with low miles. $15,000.00. The hard part is getting it licensed. That is up to you. If you have an extra set of vins laying around for an ITR then do it. Or tell them it is a kit car or a GSR converted to RHD. I dont know if any of these ideas will work.

Werd up, berwyn.
I hope someone with more knowledge than I will respond, but from what I know, it's not worth it. Besides the cost of the car, say $23k new (an estimate) from Japan, and the shipping costs (Hope someone can help here) ~$1-2k, and all the required USDM parts to make the car legal in the US, including bumper reinforcements, and smog materials, and aren't Japanese ECU's non-OBD II???? Not to mention customs fees and inspections fees, title, registration, etc. You're looking aroud $30-32k (Again, someone come up with a firm #) for a car you could buy here for $24,500 new. Not to mention the fact that it takes forever to get the car approved and registered, like several months, as I know from talking with a guy who imported an R34 Skyline.
Only worth it for a more expensive car (skyline, etc.), although I did see a real which was a crashed chassis with no motor the guy brought over for like $5-6k, and therefore didn't have to deal with customs issues, etc.

No not Pat. He has his own ITR. That guy was in my college math class. A shop owner in OR has a few that he imported and is trying to sell. Nobody wants to buy it because it is hard to license and drive legally on the street. He has sold 3 or 4 already. He even had a 4 door type R.
