ADVAN RG FORGED OR CAST?
I am understanding that the Advan RG's are cast wheels. I've brought this topic up before but somebody on the board told me that the Advan RG's were in fact forged but i've read on the internet that they are in fact Cast Wheels. If this is so then i plan on getting the Volk TE37's shortly, which are forged . Can anybody comfirm this Question...are the Advan RG's Cast wheels?
They are definately FORGED.
edit: A friend of mine made a call to some wheel co. head honcho and he confirmed they are CAST.

From my sources (and I trust them), all Advans are cast. They use a special hollow-core casting technology that allows them to be fairly light and competitive in weight with forged wheels. If you're worried about strength, everyone thinks that forged wheels are stronger...however, if you've never seen yourself, I've seen quite a few forged wheels (Volk, RH, SSR, etc) bent. Why?...cuz yes, forging does make a stronger wheel, however, to make the weight savings possible, they use much less metal, making the forged wheels just a tad stronger than most wheels. If a forged wheels used the same amount of metal as a cast wheel, it would be many times stronger, but because they specifically use less metal to save weight, the strength isn't much greater. Advans will hold up just as well as a Volk.
I believe they are cast. Check out this link http://home.earthlink.net/~cvlocas/wheels.html
The above link is not mine, somebody else posted that url a while back.

I do hardly doubt that the Advan RG has that feature.
If forged wheels weigh less because they can tolerate more abuse & cast wheels need to be heavier to account for the difference in material strength.
I think forged wheels can still be repaired if the lip or something is bent, but I don't know if their strength will be the same as most forged wheels have a specific grain structure and that would change if it's bent and repaired.
Yes, advan rg's are pricey, but like I stated above, there isn't much difference between the strength of a forged ultralight wheel and a cast wheel (there's differences in the strengths that the manufacturing process provide, but we're talking about the wheels), so what you're paying the big price tag for is the lightness. There aren't a lot, if any, other cast wheels out there that can match the weight of the rg's.
