Default ADVAN RG FORGED OR CAST?

I am understanding that the Advan RG's are cast wheels. I've brought this topic up before but somebody on the board told me that the Advan RG's were in fact forged but i've read on the internet that they are in fact Cast Wheels. If this is so then i plan on getting the Volk TE37's shortly, which are forged . Can anybody comfirm this Question...are the Advan RG's Cast wheels?

From my sources (and I trust them), all Advans are cast. They use a special hollow-core casting technology that allows them to be fairly light and competitive in weight with forged wheels. If you're worried about strength, everyone thinks that forged wheels are stronger...however, if you've never seen yourself, I've seen quite a few forged wheels (Volk, RH, SSR, etc) bent. Why?...cuz yes, forging does make a stronger wheel, however, to make the weight savings possible, they use much less metal, making the forged wheels just a tad stronger than most wheels. If a forged wheels used the same amount of metal as a cast wheel, it would be many times stronger, but because they specifically use less metal to save weight, the strength isn't much greater. Advans will hold up just as well as a Volk.

I believe they are cast. Check out this link http://home.earthlink.net/~cvlocas/wheels.html
The above link is not mine, somebody else posted that url a while back.

Yes it's true that Advan uses hollow-core cavity technology. However, I do hardly doubt that the Advan RG has that feature. Look at the spokes, they are too thin to be hollow. On the other hand, the Advan Model 6 rim spokes are indeed hollow (like some Porsche wheels)...then again the spokes on the Model 6 is thicker, so there's room for the cavity.

If forged wheels weigh less because they can tolerate more abuse & cast wheels need to be heavier to account for the difference in material strength. Then the difference ~2lbs in weight between the RG and the TE37 is enough alloy to negate the "forged is stronger than cast" theory? I'm not arguing on whether or not the wheel is forged or cast (I stand corrected, they are cast). I'm just trying to point out that the TE37 in "theory" is a much stronger wheel.

yeah, I don't think it has it now either after looking at the spokes, but they most likely use some other technology to keep their cast wheels light

Exactly, the "thicker" material of cast wheels is "thicker" to account for the strength difference, which means the strength between the two types isn't as drastically different as many ppl think. Forged wheels use much less material (less weight) while maintaining similar strength. If a forged wheel used the same amount of material as a cast, it is undoubtedly many times stronger, but I'm not debating the strength of the forging vs. casting processes...it's the forged wheel vs. cast wheel strength that ppl have misconceptions about. Less material for lighter weight and similar strength are the advantages of forged wheels. Make them the same thickness and they'll be superman wheels!...but just as heavy as a cast.

Advan RG's are pretty pricey then if they were cast.

I think forged wheels can still be repaired if the lip or something is bent, but I don't know if their strength will be the same as most forged wheels have a specific grain structure and that would change if it's bent and repaired.

Yes, advan rg's are pricey, but like I stated above, there isn't much difference between the strength of a forged ultralight wheel and a cast wheel (there's differences in the strengths that the manufacturing process provide, but we're talking about the wheels), so what you're paying the big price tag for is the lightness. There aren't a lot, if any, other cast wheels out there that can match the weight of the rg's.
