Look at where your fuses are and tap it to the lights

Sounds like you need to replace the alternator instead of putting in a volt guage.

But I would think you would want it wired directly to the battery to get the most accurate reading, so you don't get any voltage drop across circuits before it gets to the guage.

yeah i need a new alternator but wont have the money for another for 2 weeks so this'll just have do do for now and let me know when its going to die..if i wire it directly to the battery it will be on 24/7 will it drain the battery even more or should i put a switch in it???

haha.. so you'll know when it dies?
No, that lil volt meter is not going to drain anything. You'll get a more accurate reading if wired directly from the battery, but you dont need it to be that accurate anyways, so wiring to the cigarette lighter will be fine. You need to connect it to something that turns on with your ignition. Cigarette lighter is your best source. You do know that you have a battery light, that will come on when there is something wrong. To most people, that is good enough.
