swapping everything from 1 car to another (engine, suspension, interior, everything...)
background: I plan on having my 89 CRX Si re-painted soon, but it's gonna need a little body work (from accidents, not rust... it's pretty much rust-free). I have an opportunity to buy a 90 CRX DX that is equally rust free, but will require virtually no body work.
poll options:
1) Buy the DX. This would save me some weight, but not a lot, and I'd lose my sunroof which has a dead motor anyway. More importantly, it would give me an opportunity to have the entire car painted (interior, engine bay, etc) as well as a chance to examine every single part for wear and damage during the switch-over.
2) Keep the Si. The easiest choice, but not the most thorough.
3) Look around for a rust-free HF. My car isn't as fast as I'd like it to bee (duh), so if I could find a clean 88 HF, how much less would it weigh after I swapped the b16a, suspension, rear disks, and full interior from my Si? Would it be worth it?
I know several people on here have done this full-car-switch over, so I'm mostly looking for their opinion of how much trouble it is. Everyone else feel free to vote as well. Oh, here's a picture to get more people to look at the thread:

You said the SI needs body work and you have the oppurtunity to get a DX (rust free) w/ a perfect body? I say swap everything into the DX.
But if you feel u wanna keep the SI, go for it man. Just my $.02

i just did what u are pretty much doing i got a 89 crx si shell clean body and clean title and am swaping all my stuff from my 88 crx si in there id say go for it. My 88 crx si is a salvaged title and busted lol
i did the same thing (only crx si to civic hatchback) and it was kinda fun (especially the wiring harness) took me about a month... didn't have much time for it tho... but as far as your situation... hmm... i would buy the dx and drive it the way it is... and do all the work on the si while you wait... that way you can work on the si being that it won't be your daily driver anymore... think about it man... oh and the only reason i considered the swap of parts from my crx si is because i rolled it four times in a ditch... keep the si man... or sell it to me
i wrecked my one CRX and was fortunate that i could swap most of the stuff from the wreck to the new one. however my new CRX needed body work, and paint - cause i wanted it to be black.
as far as what you should do- I'm partial to the Si, i really like having the sunroof, but if you dont care and can get a rustfree/solid dx, I would just swap it all over. but if the Si is in overall good shape (other than what you mentioned already) boob5250 has a good point - you could work on the Si while you have time and rock the DX.
my conversion between cars (with some custom work and searches for JDM parts and body time) has taken 2 years
