Default Any good bodyshops in the Bay Area??

Can any of you Bay Area owners point me in the right direction on a really good bodyshop that has experience with repairing carbonfiber? Thanks

repairing carbon fiber? hmmmm, doesn't really work that way, especially not like fiberglass. fiberglass isn't too difficult to repair, however cf.. it depends what you are talking about. is it the top clear coat? or the actual cf that is bumped itself and split all to pieces? because if so... you will probably just want to get a new piece of whatever it is that is damaged.

what piece are we talking about here?

once it's broken, you can't really repair it. If it's painted over, then repair is nothing more than bondo and some epoxy resin.

Its the CFRP Mugen SS front bumper. I got a lovebite on the side by another S2k owner. She is paying for the damages. I always used to get this front worked on by a CF specialist in Hawaii who used a CF repair kit. I will look around. I got a few options now..

Here is the bite..

CFRP?

I don't think the Mugen bumper is carbon fiber like their hood and hardtop. I think it's what they call "FRP"(fiberglass reinforced polymer).

Yeah it is. If you actually look at the damage its all cfrp. No way is it just frp. If it was it would be dirt cheap then...

O.K., then why doesn't Mugen just say it's a C/F bumper? Why does the Mugen bumper unpainted look exactly like the FRP hardtop unpainted, and not the glossy dark-greyish/black color commonly associated with C/F(and the Mugen C/F hardtop)?

I have the Mugen bumper on my S2K, so I know what it looks like unpainted.

I seriously doubt it.

If it was C/F, I think it would have cost way more than what KMS retails it for.

Believe what you want. I dont really care...
BTW this bumper shipped to me was $2300+(to Hawaii).
Uhh, lets see a repair job thats another $900 and 3 paint jobs at $400 a piece, so thats $2100+$2300+ (my new accident which is another $800-$1000). I could have had a SC for the maintenence costs to keep my front bumper in good condition.
To me thats a lot of loot considering my new Type V CF hood was only $1800. Then again my intake new is $1980 + shipping so go figure. Just out of curiosity where did you get your bumper? Is it authentic or a knock-off? Where do you get your data? What do you have done to your S2000 again? Pics please? Thanks!

Yeah tell me about it. I paid $2100 from King Motorsports to have it shipped to Southern California.

For the money I paid for the bumper, it had better be real. I got my data from KMS' website and what I have witnessed with my own two eyes. My S2K is equipped with well thought out upgrades that enable me to participate at HPDE/S events and track days while developing my driving skills. Along with the Mugen bumper, I have the Mugen S1 bucket, Mugen steering wheel II, Spoon strut bar, and Stoptech steel braided brake lines.

Here's a pic from Laguna Seca(Monterey, CA) earlier this year:

This is true. Period.

I'm sorry about the damage, but you're lucky it is NOT carbon fibre. Because it will be less expensive to fix. Good luck.

chris, the mugen front bumper, and I believe all (not sure about the ALL part) mugen bumpers are fiberglass composite. Not carbon or kevlar composite. Whoever told you that your bumper is carbon composite is wrong.

You can have that repaired at any body shop specializing in body kits and fiberglass. It's nothing more than patching it up with extra fiberglass and resin.

Race car body parts are made out of fiber/carbon/kevlar composite b/c it's light, disposable, and once there's a mold, easy to pump them out for replacement.

Well my bumper just got finished today. I asked the same questions as I have asked 4 other shops that have worked on my Mugen SS front. Today the shop manager explained the bumper from start to finish along with all the work/repair they performed. Anyway the bottom line is the entire Mugen SS front bumper starts out as full carbon fiber (regardless of what any of you say, your wrong) then fiberglass is layed over the carbon fiber. See the whole thing is I knew this years ago but a lot of the board members said it wasnt carbon fiber or there is no carbon fiber in the bumper. The fact and truth still remains that it is carbon fiber. Some of you have bought it used and even if you put it on yourself wouldnt notice at all. If you bought it straight from King Motorsports you will know what I am talking about. Even today it was so obvious. You could see carbon fiber. Anyway I just wanted to set the record straight for the final time...
To me $2300 for a front bumper is a lot more than your average front bumper. I bought my Cwest front and that was fiberglass. You can totally tell the difference betweed the two with the weight and material. 3 years ago when I had/owned the first Cwest kit in the US it was $800. Today you can get them for way less but if the Mugen front is just fiberglass as some you think then it would be in the $800-$1000 range. Well low and behold its twice that price on the King site. Its $1950 plus shipping.
