Default LS VTEC project has commenced!

Hello everyone... Well, i've been working on this project for the last 3 months now (ordering parts and cleaning old stuff) and its closing up so i figured I could start with the write up that I have promised...

So here is what I'm doing....
- '91 jdm B16A head
- mugen valve springs
- skunk2 ti retainers
- b16 cams (for now) EDIT: GSR CAMS
- P&P
- 3 angle valve job

- 95 (i think) b18b1 block
- ctr pistons (.25 mm over)
- shotpeened ls rods (with arp rod bolts) I also polished the stress line out of them, i think its called flashover or something
- gsr: flywheel (lightened), block girdle, oil pick up, windage tray, oil pan, water pump, oil pump, and t belt
- balanced, magged, and polished ls crank
- arp head studs for b16a head and b20 block, arp gsr mainstuds
- Bosche 410 cc injectors (plans for 75 shot of n20 later)
- Chipped p28 (already running that) with custom all motor program (thx to IH8Ricerz)
- AEM FRP (with gauge)
- using my itr clutch that was installed when i swapped in my b16
- and im gonna use my ls trans till i can afford a b16 (which i will later add kazz lsd)
- 2.5" custom exhaust with cheapo muffler (its cheap, but sounds really ****** good)

i decided on this setup because it was available. what happend was i toasted my ls motor a year ago... so i got a jdm b16 longblock from passwordjdm as a cheap/powerful replacement (best bang for the buck, $970 out the door). the last year or so i was running ls trans, b16 longblock (and non vtec for the longest time because i was too cheap to get a new ecu )

Well, right now im selling my H beam rods because first off, they wont fit with my CTR pistons, second they are heavy as hell and should be used for turbo motors only (overkill for 200 whp NA motor), and 3rd, they are worth 300 bones that i DESPERATELY NEED . SOLD

I will keep you all posted on how it is going and when i get to work on monday, i'll take some pix of my stuff.

UPDATE

Well here we are... assembly time. Just got my piston rings from honda. I had to get pr3 because Password was out of stock on the .25mm over CTR Rings. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

I'll let the pix do the talking

future plans:
Hondata
8lb Fidanza Flywheel
b16 trans with kazz lsd
skunk stage 2's
Walbro Fuel Pump
Endyn Breather Kit
Cam Gears
JDM 4-1 header w/ cat
Intake, prolly AEM shortram or a custom one i will put together

here are the pix of what i got, more will be added later... enjoi

What's that... a gsr girdle on a b18b??? whaaaa?

Fresh line hone

.25mm overbore

gsr flywheel (getting lightened this week hopefully)

EDIT
Here it is... lightened and surfaced... dam its sexy... 11lb gsr flywheel biiaaatch!

Im not a B series guy. But I read about them.

Im not sure who makes the correct dowel pins for ls vtecs.

I wouldnt half *** it and machine them. It will probably work, but why the risk when the motor is worth plenty ?

Once again, hope it all works out for the best man.

so do you know how easy it would be do to this... i mean, if i drill to deap the dowel wont seat correctly, or i dont drill deep enough.

Why would you say that to me ?

From what I have read here on H-T a lot of people say the custom dowel pins are the safest way to go.

Was I wrong in thinking that the dowel pins may wiggle slightly if the holes are machined to be larger ?

I have heard this is why a lot of ls vtecs dont last, because the head walks slightly.

Is this false ? If so, tell me, so I can respond to the threads Ive read and correct them.

first i dont think regurgating(?) information is a good thing to do... just cuz some other guys on here said it doesnt mean that it is true. and your wrong about the dowels... the dowel isnt THAT crucial if its off by .001 or so. the purpose of dowels is to guide the head into the block (it has more but i cant think of what they are right now). the isnt gonna "walk", i have arp head studs

Walk doesnt necessarily have to be taken seriously. Your right. .001 of movement wont do anything, the head does that constantly.

And I know the pins are to guide the head onto the block. But would you run without ANY dowel pins ? I hope not.

I would just want something that I KNOW is made specifically for the purpose.

Thumbs up on the ARP head studs. I need to invest in those.

well... i shotpeened my rods tonight... stayed at work till 9 doing so but i also lighted my gsr flywheel.... (drumroll please) 9 POUNDS!!!!!! i was freakin shocked... when i first weighed it, it was 20lbs... when i weighd it when i was done... 11 lbs. since it is a shitty scale and doesnt read oz's who knows... when i get it surfaced it may drop down to a 10... so a 10 lb stock flywheel... im ****** stolked... just thought i'd share

and all you haters out there that think you can only take off 3-4 pounds... i will prove you wrong. my co worker has been machining since the 70's. He 0wns you newbs!
