UV Keratitis aka flash burn.... how many of you?
I just got back from the hospital, and holy **** does flash burn suck ***. It woke me up out of a dead sleep at 3 in the morning. I thought I just had something in my eye... nope.
2 hours later, I am now on tylenol 3, tetracine, and someother eye drops.
This **** hurts like a bitch... mind you I was wearing all the proper safety gear.... still got me.
gotta go bad storm stuff is going unplugged.

I really think that it came more from when I was using a welding shield mask (the kind you just hold up to your face) when my buddy was doing some welding that it doesn't cover the sides of your face so the UV light still gets around it and catches the eye.
Either way from now on I will never use that shield again. I just can't wait for the ER bill too!!!
Should be a nice 1k$ for absolutly nothing. Although the drugs that they gave when I got there did a nice job of making the pain stop so I can actually open/close my eyes now.
Gave me a script for some more t3's and I thought that without insurance it would be expensive.... $7.99 The hot nurse told me that this usually stops hurting in 24-48 hours. Damn she was cute. Should've asked for her #, but she probably would have thought the drugs were kicking in.

I got photo keratitus from snowboarding without glasses before. Same thing happened to me, the whites of my eyes were red, and woke up in the middle of the night with them burning. The next day they were really really dry and burning, and my eyes were watering like mad all day. I toughed it out like a man though, no ER bill for me
Never got full flashburn, but Ive seen dancing lights quite a few times before I treated the welder like a gun...point, protection, then click

It's one thing to tough it out like a "man", but when your screw your eyes up, you only get one set... so you can be a "man", but I prefer to be able to drive my honda myself.... not with me in the passenger seat with my cane and a pair of sunglasses on.
sulfacetamide sodium opthalmic solution drops... work pretty good. My eyes don't look so fucked up anymore...

I've had it probably 3 or 4 times(I know, stupid... stupid... stupid...) and it is by far one of the more uncomfortable things you can experience. It's weird how it always occurs about 6-10 hours after you are welding and it's always in the middle of the night. For those who don't know what it feels like, imagine someone holding your eyelids open and then pouring a teaspoon full of sand in there. It's painfull weather your eyes are opened, or closed. The worse pain usually goes away after about 4-6 hours but for the next day your eyes are extremely sensitive to light and hurt when you blink.
It's no fun. I have gotten alot better about wearing my helmet even when tacking things cause even that is enough if you are going at it for a few hours.

I've gotten mild cases before by tacking with my eyes shut for an extended period of time(wicked sun burn too).Sucks when you are trying to get the job done faster but i use a mask now.
