my plan/dream
Heyas guys,
First off, I would like to say "HI!" Im new to the boards and the whole import scene, but im currently in the process of getting a CRX in exchange for my BMW to start my project/dream.
(Note: I am currently dead broke, and only make about $500 a month) so not only recovering from debt, but Im trying to do this as cheaply as possible, but then again who isnt.
)
This is what Ive come too:
Tuesday im going to look at a 1990 CRX DX manul transmission, lots of miles, non working ac, red, and broken drivers seat "runs good". <-this is all I know of it so far...
Im going to drive this gas saver untill, I can save up enough money to do an engine swap, and in the mean time fix it up with the small things, i.e. Intake, exaust, plugs, wires, interior work.
Ok, so Ive decided to swap in a JDM B18b1 ls (non vtec), because I eventually want to go turbo, and cheap. With the 9.2 compression ratio, I figured this would be the best canadate. Then Turbo it. boosting low (around 5lbs) I also want to keep the outside super sleeper, so I might even spray paint it black and put on a cardboard body kit just to mess around. Oh and I want to put on coilovers and lower it for handling purposes, cuz I know you have be able to "handle the power".
the most Ive done to cars is change the water pump in the BMW, and it was a bitch. I have a lot to learn about cars. (I just learned what a DOHC was
.)
But im super stoked about doing this project car.
So basically, What do you guys think? What can I expect. What will I hate. What will I love. What do you think of the DX model, compaired to the rest (non Si) models?
I'll try to keep this updated and with lots of pictures (love that camera phone
)
Thanks
~Adam

Shoot... go with the ls engine then a little later on go with a vtec head for a ls/vtec engine... lots of torque.
I wouldn't bother spending a bunch of money on the d15b2 (crx dx engine), your best bet is to do a MPFI swap, which takes the dx's dual point (2 injectors) injection system and switches it to a multi point fuel injection (4 injectors) system. That alone will atleast give you some power.
check out http://www.fourthgenhatch.com for other ideas too. MPFI wiring is on his site and so far has been the best article I have found for the swap....
if this post doesnt look right it's cause it is 5:30 in the morning and I just got a crapload of tylenol 3 from the hospital.... watch out if you weld....
