Default zc turbo ?'s

I have a 89 hf hatch. It's only weighing in at 1900 lbs and I've got a sohc zc motor in it. I was curious about how much boost it would take to make about 240 hp at the wheels. The engine right now is probably putting out maybe 105-110 at the wheels. I was thinking between 15-20 psi but I'm not sure. Any info would be great.

Yeah i would guess between 15 and 20 psi. I don't know how long it will last before grenading at that high boost level especially wih completely stock internals.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot to mention that. I was going to use crower rods, race engineering pistons, and a race engineering cylinder brace. There is no way I'd try and run 20 psi through a stock engine. I'd throw a rod a mile away before I even left the garage. Still, more info would be great.

Tuning will be key. Get a good engine management system and a good tuner and you will be able to make more power on less boost with a good tuned engine than you would with more boost on a bad tune. Also try to piece together a turbo kit since you can get better parts for less money than a mainstream "kit".

What would you recommend as far as engine management?? I'm on somewhat of a fixed budget so I can't go all out stand-alone but I don't want to go with cheap fmu either. As well, I don't have access to tuning unfornutately. I live in God forsaken Houston, TX where intake and exhaust is basically as far as it goes. There isn't anywhere, locally, that could tune my engine. Although, there is an A'PEX performance shop downtown. Does A'PEX make electronics I could use for turbo/engine management??

uberdata is free and you could tune it with a wideband o2 and a laptop. i think u can use turboedit if your obd0 uberdata is for obd1

That's a simple question with a simple answer. Uberdata is, in short, a piece of software that enables you to modify your Honda ECU's code using a Windows-based program. Does this mean your Mom's Accord can use Uberdata? Probably not. You'll have to check the list of supported ECUs to see if Uberdata can be useful to you.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

There is also an OBD0 equivalent called Turboedit.

Here is some good information on PGMFI, it will help you in showing you what ECU to choose for chipping and using uberdata/turboedit.

Another great forum for D series turbos is:

http://www.turbod16.com

Or you could always go Hondata and find a Hondata tuner in your area, however it might cost a lot more.

Beefier internals are great once you start to make power, but nothing in the world can stand massive detonation, tuning is the key.

heres my experence with the dohc zc, setup is a zc turbo daily at 7 psi, with 12 psi now and then, built zc with crower rods, je custom pistons(9.5.1) zdyne standalone, greddy turbo kit, type 31 intercooler, j&s safeguard, c&r Rad, so far after almost 2 years boosting i have had no problems, dyno,ed at 201 hp with 185 tourque to the wheels at 9 psi, have had it dyno,ed twice to get the perfect engine tune with the zdyne. engine is still strong as when it was first built, as long as you do things right with"proper engine tuning" your engine should last a long time, if going turbo never go cheap, it costs $ to have a reiable setup, i hear so many people saying zc,s suck but from my experences, i love my zc turbo
