Granted this might be overkill, but I figure the less stress on the engine the better. I live in upstate NY where we see temp's as low as zero but at average 30's - 40's for a couple months.

Complete factory accessory from Acura, the whole kit. Basically it's a brass heater element that goes in place of the coolant drain plug on the block. Then a harness plugs into it and you route it to the opening in the grill. Install takes about 30 mins if you take your sweet time.

Plugged it in tonite before I went to bed, makes a little hissing noise, and heats up quick. Temp was low 40's overnight. Car sat for 12+ hours, I came out, to find it still hissing away. Complete engine block was warm to touch, so thats cool. Start car and drive, instantly puts out warm air. After 2-3 mins of driving it was at normal op. temp. 50's outside air temp at this time. Can't wait to have it during winter. For those of you in simlar conditions or Canada, for around 30 bucks, why wouldn't you do this

 

I don't have any way to get power out to my alley.

 

okay okay, so maybe there's one reason not to do it, how about a really long extension cord?? Park in the neighboors apartment complex and steal someones outlet??

 

When I was going to school in northern maine everyone had a block heater, and they all swear by it. Makes it real easy to start the car on a cold morning.

I go to school in North Dakota. Highs of 0. I prolly need a block heater, but our school parking lot does not have any power outlets.

Anyone know of someway I can put an extra battery in my car and somehow plug the block heater into it. I would also hook the battery up to the alternater to recharge while driving. I dunno if that would work out to well. Anyone have any ideas?

Nope. Call Tim up and ask specifically for the part. He hooked me up with a really good deal, beat AHMotor prices on a bunch of stuff, thats my new hook-up for cheap honda/acura stock parts.

Yes, integtra and rsx block heaters have the same part number.

Never heard of an oil dipstick heater, I know they dont make one for the Integra from the factory, if that counts.

I didn't think the RSX part was the same, because they had to special order mine....but what the hell do I know

I do know that the one for the 2001 civic is different than the teg part

 

Im trying to order the block heater for my Integra but they say the part is no longer available. Will the part from another car work?

I live in Canada and in my city we've hit as low as -40 for some stretches of winter, I've owned my Integra almost 4 years now and it's never had a block heater.

I make sure my battery is good and strong (high cold cranking amp rating helps) and use thinner oil and it starts like a charm.

 

No one is doubting that. Its a nice feature to have, thats all.

Don't know where you got those part numbers from but an 94+ Integra uses the 08T44-ST7-200.

Older Integras uses 08T44-SK7-200 and the RSX uses 08T44-S5B-100.

Some people live a couple miles from work and prefer to have instant heat when they get to their vehicles. It is an accessory item and is not a necessity. It's just a luxury item.

I'm not telling anyone what to do with their cars, I'm just stating my particular solution.

 

i seen a couple of these. my buddy bought he civic in alaske and it had it in the block but nothing to plug into it. i have a remote starter for a manual transmission i bought a few years ago, i need to get that reinstalled. that way i wont be in a hurry and forget to unplug it and pull my house over or something.

 

Well, if the device needs 120 AC power, one can still a power inverter and produced a modified sine wave 110 AC. The power rating of the inverter you decide to buy will depend on the power requirements of the block heater. Can the the author of this topic look up the power rating of the block heater?

Well, if the power drain is not too much then one can just plug the power inverter into the cigarette lighter. This should solve the problem for the guy in th ealley with no power and people driving back and forth from remote locations without access to power.

 

i have a 400watt power inverter, it wont run unless the car is running. others might differ but i know mine wont work with the car off.

i park in a garage it dont get too cold in there, granted its only been in the 20's a few times for a low at night so far.

to garages but the block heater isnt a bad idea anyways tho

 

If you pay for electricity, put that sucker on a timer. It's gonna cost a pretty penny to be heating that block for half the winter. There is no reason to be heating it all night, 1 hour should be good.
