Experimental Autocross competition (update)
Experimental Autocross competition (update)
A friend of mine and I maintain a website called nerdsracing.com, perhaps you've visited? Anyway we have a small group of folks that banter back and forth about stuff. Some of the bantering involved the formulation of a small autocross competition amongst ourselves.
5pts for each event attended, + 5pts. if trophied + 5 pts. for 1st in class X the number of unique autocross venues attended.
It seemed pretty cool, and so on a whim, after establishing a small set of rules (we didn't want to over regulate this schtuff), we sent out letters to see if we could get some year-end freebies.
Much to our surprise we did:
The Evolution Driving School was the first to offer stuff. They offered a free school to top male and female, a 50 discount to the second place male and female, plus all sorts of other swag, like shirts, stickers, etc.
Second to offer us stuff, was the folks (thanks Scott!) at Grassroots Motorsports Magazine. They have offered quite a few yearly subscriptions, plus t-shirts, license plate holders and a crap-load of stickers... STICKERS.
From there we had three more folks jump on board, EventPhotoNow.com, Terry Zorich is a former motorcycle track day guy who decided to try this... safer or something; anyway he's offered to give away prints or a CD of whomever he captures via digital camera to the top few competitors.
Both of two other sponsors have offered to help with both promotion and help with the year-end trophy costs... they are Brian Yoder, and his racing website, unclefestermotorsports.com, and Perry Aidelbaum, of autox4u.com
Being that this was the first year, some loop holes were exposed and some we decided that it'd be better left alone rather then write an entire rulebook... may open up a can of worms ya' know?
I'd also like to thank Honda-Tech and RJ for allowing me to use up some space here on the RR/Autocross forum to plug the SlideRule Cup.

It's too late to "officially" register for the competition this year (2004). We felt it only fair to the folks who signed up and to the sponsors to close the doors mid-way through the season. So look for this next year (2005).
