Default b16b block (is it worth fixing?)

I just picked up a b16b shortblock and I assume it's been stroked to a 1.8L. The ctr pistons are almost (1mm lower) level with the top of the cylinder. the rods end caps read p72 so it's been stroked to a 1.8L? just planning to take the internals out... block is legit...the previous owner tried (and i used the word "tried" loosely) to go turbo and he notched the block with a die grinder and vice grips... he just didnt break off the first webbing but the second lower web also...maybe fixable....needs welding though... Any thoughts on this?

thx in advance

Looks like they used a hammer and chisel. If it doesn't leak, it'll work. You can use a grinder to smooth that out, but I wouldn't take much more material off that.

i'd personally get that welded... just because its not leaking now, doesn't mean it might not leak later on down the road. then its going to cost you a lot of dough just because you cheaped out now.

i have never seen the rods out of a ctr or the caps but i know the block is just a p72block with a "b16b" stamp on it. kinda like the b17a. its a b16block with "b17a1" stamped on it

Well the block does not leak to my knowledge...the rods are p72 caps with either 22 or 23 between the caps and the rod where the would split in half and the crank has an "X" on it so I would say that someone in japan stroked the b16b to a 1.8L using a Spoon kit or factory (1.8L) type r parts. Thanks for all your input about the block... the b16b block looks abused and used. Nasty and dirty looking so maybe I'll find a jdm b18c and stuff the parts into it...But the compression ratio would be high, 11.8 to 1 (if I'm correct). Heres two more pics, one is of the piston and the other is from a different view of the over-zelous turbo mod.
