Default gsr cluster? pics?

can someone explain to me the idea of putting a 94+ gsr cluster into ef civic/crx's, does it go right in or something cause it seems pretty popular to do, does anyone have any pictures of it in the car and working properly?

i heard of people putting the whole gsr dash in place so that the gauge cluster would fit right. the problem is that the crx bezels are square-ish and the gsr are rounded.

I have a USDM LS cluster in my CRX - same look as the GSR, but wiring is totally different. Im making a custom craddle for the cluster to bolt to, and reworking the gauge surround.

heres a pic of mine - if you notice on the sides of the cluster- the OEM Honda surround cuts off the sides of the gauges slightly, Im modifiying mine to fit properly

Man that **** looks good. I had a gsr cluster but i never put it in because i have an LS and id never be able to reach the redline on the tach...yes i know its not that big of a deal but im picky. So id love to get ahold of an LS on. How difficult was the wiring? Thanks

thats the same reason i used an LS cluster. closest to a D16 redline.

wiring was umm.. difficult. for some reason GSR and LS wiring is almost ALL different. I had a beat gsr cluster and after wired for the LS cluster, only thing that worked were a couple of the light indicators.

I just traced the back of the cluster to the pin, and then used one of the sites that list what the PIN location of a CRX is, and compared them and repinned.

you may have had clusters from different generations......the 94-95 have the same pin-outs, and the 96 plus have another set of them....if you have the manuals to all the cars , you can write down the colors, cut and solder.....that is what i did..
if you know how to read...all the information is there

Just a note for anyone who is going to attempt this, MANY of the tutorial sites online that are linked to from this site are horribly wrong on the pinouts. It takes combined information from multiple sites to get everything working properly but it can be done. I love mine, it makes the car feel 10 years newer!

meh...if you just sit down with the print outs from both cars, write out the colors, and wires so when you get to cutting and soldering...you will know exactly what to do.

just about. I got it from Austrailia, and i dont think it was ever used on a car. the center horn button wasnt even installed when i got it. and when i work on the car or around the wheel, im careful not to get it dirty.

it cost me a pretty penny too

Just go with the 99-00 civic si cluster. I think it looks better. Here is my how to. The pin outs for the crx are correct if you want to use them. Just my help.
