Have you ever changed a clutch?
i took my car to the mechanic and supposedly the clutch needs to be replaced. they are chargin me 500 for parts and 500 for labor plus tax.
i just replaced the master cylander and the slave cylander last month and now the mechanic is tellin me that i need to replace the release bearing, preasure plate, the disk, and the fly wheel.
whats the best idea to save money? should i order parts online or and get it installed somewhere else? or should i just get it done from where my car is at right now?
by the way... my car will only run when the engine is cool, once i start driving and the car warms up, the car will barley move without me reving up a lot.
how much did you all pay when it was time to replace the clutch..

i changed mine back in july. i had the help of a friend of mine. the shop i go to here if i can't do the work myself wanted $750 to do it. i went and bought an exedy clutch from clutchcityonline for $260 it is suppose to hold up to 300hp which is what i need since my turbo stuff will be done in the next few weeks. it came with a pressure plate and throwout bearing in the kit. i also bought a new flywheel from advance auto parts for like $90 since i was doing the work on sunday and no one could resurface my flywheel.
it took us a total of 15 hours in the garage. my buddy had replaced the clutch in a sentra SE-R a week before. i had never done it before. its really not that hard to do on paper its just a bitch lining everything up and dropping the tranny.
here's the tools you will need.
1/2" breaker bar ( a must have)
36mm axle nut socket to remove axle nuts
a set of metric sockets preferibly deep welled
a set of 12pt metric sockets (you will only need the 11mm or 10mm i can't remember and i believe the 12mm or 14mm. just find someone who has a whole set)
you will need those to remove the flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts.
you will need a 2 jaw gear puller ($20 from the autoparts store) use it to seperate the lower ball joint.
air tools definately help out a lot.
a floor jack
jack stands
and some extra cotter pins
other than that, do a search for a clutch install post by accordfreak, it was very helpful, and definately get a manual.

i have a 93 not much different on the way it is set up me and a friend did it at my friends body shop it took us four hours total and the book calls for 6.5 we replaced clutch and tranny since mine took a dump so i also had to pull the tranny out of a parts car i had so total it took 5.5 hours but don't forgetif you do it yourself you need help bleeding the clutch
i just changed my clutch about 3 months ago. if u can keep the bolts in order and remember where they go then u have 1/2 the battle already done. thats the hardest part. i had never done a clutch on my car and all i did was simple common sense stuff of where does stuff go and what has to come out in order to pull that tranny out. and make sure u get someone to help u if u decide to start this project ur self cuz that tranny is a little on the heavy side for one person. u save a boat load of money if u do it ur self. i spent $145 when it was all said and done. that was for the clutch and new slave cyl. good luck!!!
