hatch vs coupe/sedan
hi guys, im trying to find a civic that would be a good project car. It seems that fixing up a 2 door hatchback is the cooler car to get. Unfortunatley, they seem to be more uncommon than the sedan. whats the difference between the sedan and hatchback and what is more desireable?

they seem to be more uncommon than the sedan? hmm? i think they are more common than the sedan. why not compare hb with coupes?
anyway, it's all personal preference! i like my 4dr alot because too many people have hatches and coupes around here. hb's are lighter, etc. etc. coupes are just plain cool. it's up to you.

well the weight between the two is fairly large. i think the sedan weighs a couple hundred more, considering more interior and two more doors. And studies have proven that the hatchback's body lines are more aerodynamic then most other body shapes. i prefer sedan because its rare to find a nice clean sedan in my area.

there are alot of hatches out there but i think everyone likes those because they are the lightest ones also that they are pretty nice. depends on what you wanna do with the car. a coupe looks really good if you clean them up. well thats just my opinion is you race i say go hatch cuz you would need to make more power to get the coupe and the sedan movin.

I definitley would rather have a hatchback. The reason that its hard to find what i want is because i want a very specific car. I live in michigan, and most old cars rust out. I am looking for a '94+ civic ex so it is wired for the vtech and so it has airbags.

Being that its a family car, for one.</TD></TR></TABLE>
If you haven't noticed, we all drive honda's, meant to be family cars with good gas mileage. We just **** em up

dude, I almost went the sedan route,
I think they are really cool.
anytime I see one with a nice drop/rims going down the road, its always "oooooh".
the bodylines are really nice.
and they are actually pretty darned light cars!
they weigh less than an EK hatchback!!
might not be the tiny jellybean lightness of an eg hatch, but close enough.
also having rear seats/doors to haul friends comes in handy every now and then.
girls would probly dig it more.
I get embarassed when ppl ask me "wtf did someone steal your seats!??!"
I ended up getting a hatch though, I had already invested so much time trying to hunt one down.. I might as well just keep at it.
and I did. After having a few bought out from under me, and sold before I could get to it.
I finally found a nice charcoal hatch in good condition. price was 3250 FIRM MONEY NOW NO NEGOTIATION DUDE HAD 5 PPL WAITING TO BUY IF I DIDNT!! heh..
basically, sedans are cool,
hatches are alil played out, and buying one is a ******* warzone!!
sedans are pretty darned original.
if you've got the style sense, you can do one up reaaally freakin nice!!

ok, so it CAN be cool to do a sedan. That opens up alot more options. But ive mainly been reasearching modding a hatch and i hear you can put all sorts of other honda parts on em (gsr brakes for instance) and that appeals to me. Are the sedans and hatches the same as far as parts you can put on?
(a side note) You guys in northern california a lucky to live where you do. I was just there 2 weeks ago for the skip barber driving school. There are hondas left and right! and the craigslist is full of the kinds of cars i am looking for.

ive got a sedan and a hatch. both 5th gen. i like the sedan because in my eyes you can make them look so much better than the hatchs. and not to mention is 200 lbs lighter than a coupe. not the hatch on the other hand is small and light. therefore i got it to make it fast.

Is it me or are those wheels chopped?
That sedan looks nice though... but I definitely had to work hard to find a hatch here in Austin. More frequently they were in Houston but sold so fast that it was hard to get one and what a pain to drive 3 hours just to look at one you might not get.
Love that hatch look.

I had a coupe. Now I have a hatch and I love it a lot more. In my town they're rare so thats a plus. If I got another car, it'd be a 99-00 sedan. Very smooth lines and refined looking. Most parts are interchangeable between all models so modifying them will be easy.
