Default Timing question?

Ok so I go to set my timing, and fully advanced it's only 14 btc or so. The thing is, this is only after it warms up. The idle starts at 1200 or so, drops to 750 (where i time it into normal spec), but then falls to like 500. Anyone know what the problem could be?
-Bum dizzy? (im throwin a code 8 : TDC sensor code aswell)
-Need new timing belt?
-Timing belt is off a tooth?

That's all I can think of, anyone wanna narrow it down?

Up, when I first start the car after it hasn't been drivin for a few hours, the revs at idle are at 1200, and the timing is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay advanced (hit it with the gun). After a min or so it drops to 750 (after car gets warmed up a little), and the timing is 16btc, but then the idle drops to 500 or so and it retards.

Have you checked if the timing belt has skipped a tooth? When you check the timing and set it to spec, do you jump the service connector? If your timing and timing belt are up to date, check IACV and play with the idle screw a bit.

Don't forget the OEM tachometers are ALWAYS off. The only REAL way to check where you're idling is with a digital tachometer (usually comes together with a good timing gun).

How can I check if timing belt has skipped a tooth?

Check if camshaft sprocket and crankshaft pulley are on TDC with the belt on. Must be perfectly aligned.

Hmmm may explain TDC light.... how do I check the sprockets? Just take off valve cover? And how do I go about setting it back to what it should be?
