Default Difference between 97-98 and 99 -01 R's

Im recently in the market for a Type R.
My question is what are the differences between the 2 gens of type r's besides the obvious integra front end design change and immobilizer. Any advantages or disadvantages?

as far as performance, nothing. its pure preference. if you live in u.s. and you want a cw then you have to buy 97-98. or re-paint it. same goes for yellow or black 00-01.

I'm about 79.786543% sure that the 00-01 uses different cams.

I thought performance wise there were differences... The older models always seem to make less power on the dyno in their stock form than the newer models. And yes, I'm pretty sure the cams are different as well.

I cannot remember which one but ONLY one of the cams is different. I think it's the exhast cam on the 00-01. I am 50% sure.

Isn't it just the Intake cam lobe?

The 00-01 intake cams have 3 degrees more duration than the 97-98.

According to Acura only PY was offered in 2000 in Canada. I know 'cause I tried to get one every year since 1997. F**kin' dealer mark-ups!! And, yes, there is a CW 1999 model because I own one. I think the 1999 is the same as the 1998 and the 2000 offered a/c, immob. and maybe other stuff, I'm not sure.

The HP difference between different years is smaller than the HP difference between different cars. In other words you're just as likely to get a stock 97 that dynos higher than an 01 as you are to get an 00 that dynos higher than a 99.

AFAIK the intake cam change was to compensate for a loss of power due to emissions changes.

I've witnessed here in Vancouver a couple of 01s dyno very close to 170whp if not slightly over 170.

Mine already dynoed strong at 167 back in the day.

I believe the cams helped but I also suspect the ecu may be "smarter" stock. It's the small case ECU compared to the prev. years big case. Not sure if that has much to do with it....but many a 01 I have driven has felt great....

that or I was hypnotized by the new car smell....

1 degree of duration ( not much of a difference on stock compression ) compared to CTR. 3 degrees difference in the 97-98 vs 00-01

but im only 79.786544% sure of this

97's have..

different front bumper/lip
different rear bumper lip
no rear wiper
no AC unless installed by dealer
no carbon fiber pieces on the dash

97+98 only came in Championship White

there are no 99's in the US AFAIK

00-01 came in Phoenix yellow
00 and 01 had only the black ie (NBP or FBP) but I forget which year is which.

...sure there is plenty I'm forgetting.

As far as advantages the 97's tend to carry higher resale value, due to their rarity. performance wise the 00-01's have the different cams other than that they are pretty similar.

isnt the steering gear ratio different between the 2 gen's of R's? I believe the 00-01's have quicker steering.
