Default Planning on 17s, wondering about tire sizing

I know the usual recommendation for 17s on a 95 Accord is 215/45-17 but I noticed that on tires.com 235/40-17 is in the Plus2 recommendation. Has anybody tried the 235/40-17s? I'm wondering what drop amount would impact this.

Thanks!

Most 17" wheels have a width of 7" and which can accomodate 205 and 215 width tires but 235 is pushing it. I don't even know if a 235 width tire would fit right on an Accord.

215/40 is perfect for the accord with a nice drop.

I recommend a 205/40/17. Keeps the weight down and looks sharp.

i dont. i had that and the sidewalls are too thin for an accord. i killed two tires in a month because of potholes. one was a noname cheapy and the other was a toyo Fz4. the cheapy was actually more durable...go figure. also, 205/40 doesnt fill up the wheelwells. they look small. on a positive note, the handling was crisp due to the small hard sidewalls. i say 215/40 or 215/45 dude.

i have 4 205/40 17s for sale if anyones interested. falken 512s. good thread. no camber wear. $150 for four.

Everyone obviously has different opinions. More rubber equals more weight. You must have some SERIOUS potholes. I've had 4 sets of 205/40's in the past 6 years. Never had 1 single problem. I think 45's look ballooned.

That low sidewall you're asking for trouble.

215/45/17 OR 205/45/17 would be nearly perfect.

Thanks for the replies! However when I go to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html I find the 235/40-17s to be a very close fit yet nobody runs them.

235's WILL rub....NTM tires will be very expensive compared to 215/45/17 or 205/45/17....

the cheapy was more durable than the toyo because toyo is a les schwab tire and les schwab is just crap all together... they make their own tires with cheap materials. some people like em cuz they work for em, i dont like em cuz i know better.

205/40/17 is more for Integras and Civics

215/45/17 is fine for Accords
