Default Flat Black

I have been considering painting my 91 hatch flat black. I've seen sport compact car magazine paint both project silvia http://www.sportcompactcarweb....lvia/& project STi flat black, and it looks killer. My question is has anyone done this? The only thing that might become a problem is when anything gets on the paint, it'll be hell to get it off. I'm just wondering what you guys think.

i think it looks like complete trash. Flat black isn't "real" JDM as they pass it off flat black is i'm too broke for real paint.

If your care is track car then its cool but street car

I think it looks good for race cars aswell but like Ace$nyper said for a street car nothing tops a deep clear coat! Remember its your car though, do what you like the most.

Paint it primer black and hit it with a 1500 grit wetsand to smooth it all out.

just think about it ,,no clearcoat...so all that rain, snow, salt is gonna seep in the primer and start rustin like a bitch........
u could use an expoxy sealer but that that **** costs so much $$ ur better off just payin for a real paint job........... IMO
</TD></TR></TABLE>

or you could just buy krylon RUST tough or RUSToleom.

yeah so what if your too broke...it works and it looks nice if its done right! I say do it! its your car and others will only try to **** on your idea. Its your car and you will do with it as you like. I know i would rock the flat black. Paint is expensive and the money you spend on a paint job you could easily spend it on performance.

I've heard expoy primers won't rust, same with a clear primer... Any input? I'm about to primer my hatch.

Flat black and camo rock. If you want to do it than I say go for it. Post pics Pho Sho. BTW the hatch above looks very well done.

epoxy primer is flat black you could spray the car down just in that, only problem is its hard to sand if you're planning on sanding after you paint it (not really necessary with flat black imo)

I think satin black would be best. flat black get dark spots easily looks like gray from certain angles, but the semi gloss of satin black would look sick.

It wont get spots if you use a paint gun, instead of a rattle can.

Nice and even.

Satin and semi gloss will get spots too if you only use a rattle can.

My hatch used to be camo'd out. It is nice in California because there is not much to worry about!! If you are not worried about cost then use automotive primers and then spray a dull coat over them. That would be a good method and it lasts better than if you did it witha rattle can. just my t00 cents.

So would your camo car look like this, cause that flat black hatch is dumb looking, the *** prolly has a ZC in it too Guess its better that a D15

This is my flat black CRX in need of some more attention to get it looking right. And CRX Barts camo car is next to it.

I think it's amusing that everyone wants to do it since they saw it in a trendy magazine.

Have you seen the new camo copyrighted by the pentagon. Called digital camo I think. Now.. if you could get that somehow (maybe get army to sponser you?) It would be neat. Also day-desert-camo (current stuff you see in Iraq. But the new digital would be a blast.

I am currently pricing an STI. Somehow pay 34k for a car and then having it painted flat back just stretches it. Now.. if I was like say... Tiger Woulds.. I would get something like a McClaren F1, the most expensive AMG mercedes, or some similar absolute show car and have it rattle can spray painted primer black just to drive people crazy....

Sorry, but your analogy is flawed and does not compare.

Have a nice day.
