Default Driving Gloves

Searched the archive and there hasn't been one of lately so I thought I'd make one for 2004 since there are new gloves out..

I'm just looking for a glove with good padding in the palm area to be used inconjunction with an oem leather steering wheel, and it'd be nice to have the stitching on the outside. Also what grips best on leather? Sparco type seude? Rubber webbing in alpinestar? etc...

Doesn't have to meet any regulations so it doesn't have to be fire proof..

Simplified for flamings sake.

LOL!

No offense but I have NEVER understood someone's "need" for driving gloves on the street.

If you MUST wear them however go with batting gloves. They are cheap, designed to grip and best of all, can be replaced 1 at a time instead of in a pair only.

IDK I guess I'm a stunna. I seriously wouldn't use them every time in the car but on the weekends it'd be nice for that spirited driving.

Everyone's entitled to there own opinions, you can make fun of me all you want. As long as I get intelligent opinions on gloves. I really only need a left one, lol...

i'd have to concur.. and even for my previous track experiences, I've use some mechanic gloves I got at home depot, and some scuba gloves at expo 3(for HPDEs).. I just bought bling fireproof sparco gloves to go with my suit though, as part of curpier motorsport's honda-tech special..

I used a pair of Wilson's Leather driving gloves

I actually liked 'em for the fact that they fit tight, and I didn't slip on the leather wheel or shift ****.

hehe. I use a pair of my mom's old school isotoner gloves in summer auto-x conditions (sweaty palms, covered in greasy sunscreen) otherwise i'm barehanded since i find that bare hands grip better.

also, you should need both, since you should have both hands on the wheel at 3 and 9

He said he was a stunna. That means 1 hand at 12 and the other either on his gear shift or his chin.

i read the new stunna TSB recently, and apparently, extra grip is needed for fondling the ice encrusted remote control for their 231232 disc MP3 4000W sound system.

Well all that bass can blow the remote right out of your hand and then what are you supposed to do? Lean forward and work the stereo with your hand? Please . . . too much work with the seat laid all the way the **** back.

that wasn't even funny. I said only left cause thats the hand I use the most to grip the wheel (that's the only hand that sticks to the wheel when I go to change positions), my right hand is more relaxed, plus i like to feel the tranny when i shift

what ever happened to ht being a technical resource? instead you get these pompess jackazz that think their king chit, having to ridicule everyone else who doesn't mirror them. I thought ****'s drove vw's? maybe that's where you should go, vwvortex.com

mods or evildrew go ahead and lock this thread, since it's incoherent with my stunna dribble.

c'mon dood where's your sense of humor?

haha we're just givin you a good ol H-T ribbin.

imo, gloves don't really improve the driving experience--they're more for keeping your fingerprints intact when your fuel cell explodes all over your car a la dale jr.

The Mechanix Gloves feel great and will grip fine. If you are going after a racing glove, look at the two shops below. No need to spend over $30.00. They all will feel fine and allow for good grip. I use the Sparco Speed Glove for HPDE. I would recommend the G-Force G0 to ya, for $29.99.

Well, you keep asking questions regarding street driving in a Road Racing/Autocross forum, what do you expect?

I gave you VALID and solid advice along with the ridicule.

For the record YOU are the one who called yourself a stunna first. We just rolled with it.

I find driving gloves very useful.
When I am 100% concentration(during a race), all my energy transfers out through my hands, and they SWEAT.

If you have a suede wheel, get suede palmed gloves.
Leather wheel will benefit from a leather palmed glove.

As for padding, unless you are driving over rough terrain, such as in rallies, get a glove without padding for improved feel. I just ordered some Alpinestars F1-R's in suede, and they have padded palms for use in our rally car. If I didn't rally, I'd get the F1-T version. No padding and leather palms.

So you really only need a lefthand glove? Well, I know of someone that isn't using his left glove that I'm sure would be glad to give it to you.......

.......as long as you're under 12.

If it doesn't need to meet any regulations, seems to me that most of what OMP makes would be good for any run-of-the-mill application (kart track, hpde, auto-x, driving on the street although I cannot really fathom actually taking the time to do this). IIRC, they make a small (short) gauntlet glove w/ leather padded underside and its only like $50 bucks. Its not SFI/FIA approved however.

The one I am thinking of looks a lot like the 726 Junior here (http://www.ompusa.com/Outlet/gloves.htm)

For autocrossing and even everyday driving if you wish, nothing really beats extreme handball gloves - comfortable, thicker yet soft deerskin leather, grippy, and around $20... Batting gloves are ok but fall apart with use...especially when they get wet/sweaty. I've gone through 4 sets of batting gloves like nothing. The handball gloves seem to be holding up fine so far.

This is the exact model of glove I use for autocrossing/trackdays: Ektelon Extreme unpadded

Most of the time they're for rallying, but on long highway trips at higher speeds (Go from Vancouver to Edmonton through the night in 8 hours) the gloves also serve their purpose.
Our local import community took a cruise up to a place called Tofino. Probably one of the top 3 driver's roads in B.C. where you can have a very spirited drive. Driving gloves are as essential for me as my tires on this road, due to the level of concentration required. Also good for the winter mornings.

But, if you're asking if I (or anybody) need gloves to ball around town or hit up the 7-11, then no. That would just be silly!

That is what the thread was originally asking for.
