Default civic sputtering/missing

today delivering pizzas in my auto 88 civic lx, whenever i would come to a stop sign or a red light and stop and then take off my car would sputter like crazy and really struggle to accelerate. usually around 2k it would finally act like all cylinders were firing fine and then go on and act normal...until it downshifted and rpm's dropped low enough for it to to start struggling again...but if i let the engine build up some speed or shift manually from 2 to d3 to d4 then rpms would be high enough to avoid the problem. then a little later i was trying to show the problem to someone and the car wouldnt show symptoms again....so i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

thanks, ronnie O

anywayz forget about code 14....tested it out again today and yeah its still spuddering every now and again...but only usually after i drive about a mile or so and then come to a stop and idle for a little bit like at a stop light...but its getting worse. its getting to where it spudders so bad it stalls completely and i have to start it up again. and a few times it did this i heard a wierd almost farting noise come right after i see the oil/battery light come on or whatever lights that come on when a car stalls. please tell me how to fix.. i need this car to make some blingidy bling delivering pizzas.
