take the front seats out and clean the carpets and floormats with a carpet cleaner in a can and scrub really good. clean the leather w/ leather cleaner and a conditioner. clean all the vinyl in the car (door panals, dash, and such) with an ammonia based (windex or any similar surface cleaner) then use a protectant like armorall. clean the windows with invisable glass... that stuff is pretty awesome, removes the tar off my window (i'm a smoker).

after that the car should be smelling extremely clean, wont smell new, it'll smell like fresh cleaning supplies. leave the windows open when you drive around and the smell will die down then it'll have a neutral smell to it.

if you do all the above stuff and it still smells, rent an ozone generator and that should get rid of the odor.

go to a detailing shop and ask them for a de-oderizing bomb (thats what we called thems anyway) they open a "bomb" up in the car and shut all the doors and just let it go until it runs out and there are a variety of smells, like new car, various air freshener scents and alot more <<<<< always worked for us when i worked for cartime.
