Cracked water pump?
I replaced the water pump in my engine (H22) when I originally had it swapped into my del Sol. Well, today I got a call from my engine builder saying that he pulled the tensioner off the engine and saw water. He pulled off the water pump and from what he described, it was cracked up bad. What could have caused this? The thing was brand new when I had it put in, now I have to spend $110 to put a new one in.
I just wonder simply because I don't want to ever have to replace another water pump under these circumstances again. Hopefully, when I have this one put in, I'll end up having to replace it as a precautionary measure, not because the other one is broken. Finally, is there anything that the water pump might have damaged? The guy building my engine has been doing the stuff for years and says that he sees nothing wrong with the engine. I assume he's right and that I'm just worrying about nothing right?

A number of things could have caused it, inproper torque in the bolts, crushed or bent seal, etc., etc. At any rate, sounds like you caught it before it broke something else.
Let me ask this, did you notice any fluid coming out from under the lower timing belt cover? Was your timing belt wet with fluid? Balancer belt? If none of these things are true, I would question whether or not it was actually cracked.

He told me that the timing belt never got wet, due to him taking it off before everything else. I asked him if the timing belt would be OK to still use and he said it would and from what I could tell, the only way that you were going to know that the water pump was damaged was seeing it after taking off the tensioner. The block never leaked any fluid, I know that for sure.
But I haven't damaged the bearings or anything have I?

I doubt you hurt anything by the way it sounds. Strange to me that the belts and everything would be dry if it was cracked......Should have been leaking.
So should I look into re-doing the timing belt as well? He said that it never got wet though, but he wouldn't really know since he's only had the car for a couple days. I'm going to talk to him about it tomorrow morning though, so it'll all get settled.
****...my water pump just recently went out too dotn think i damaged much...but it was a bitch cause i was tryin to get it home and was stuck on the highway while my car was steadily overheating...not good
but im pulling my motor fixing the water pump and doing my timing belt and the whole works and see if i damaged anything.

is your engine a H22a4? if it is I know what happened. your "engine builder" tried to unbolt the tensioner adjustment screw before taking out the autotensioner. but before the screw comes all the way out, the pressure from the autotensioner pulls on the adjuster screw and that sucker comes shooting out.
I did the same thing when i was disassembling my block.
took a chunk off my waterpump with it. LOL.

Yep. I went over to his garage today and that's pretty much what happened. Big chunk of the water pump ended up coming off. The part itself was fine beforehand. Still costs me $$$ regardless. ****.

My engine builder broke a sensor off the motor while pulling it out of his shop, and paid for it. If he broke it, he should pay for it, just my .02.
