Mini-Me Starts! But She Smokes!
So after 2 months of learning all this poop, here's what I got
90Si with Z6 head. She finally starts, turns out my Dist was bad!
I HAVEN'T done timing yet, but she smokes out the exhaust like there is no tomorrow. . is this normal? I'm afraid the smoking is very bad.
Guru's, any help?

Guide yourself by colors and test and tune from there. I always confuse the colors so if someone and dble verify what I wrote it would him out the guy more. I have it written down somewhere lol just for my reference. Good Luck.
Blue Smoke - Coolant
Black Smoke - Oil
White Smoke - Gas

My question is. . would bad timing cause the smoking?
Thanks!

yes it would especially since you said you havent tuned it yet... and you might have a very high advance on your timing.... but you still havent told use what color of smoke comes out...

i'm 99% sure it's white. . might have a hint of grey, but don't think so.
My timing light won't work, so I dunno when I'll be able to do the timing. I put the positive on the + battery, - on the Battery -, and the inductive thing on the #1 plug wire near the dist, and the light won't put out a strobe. So I'm stumped. Followed all the walkthroughs online on how to check the timing.

yes I changed the Water Pump, and it's a tri layer Y8 HG, and it's torqued to specs, I assure you.
Idle's rough, but timing's not done so that doesn't apply.
No ECU codes.

I believe that's #4 that you hooked up to. #1 is furthest from the distributor and closest to the timing belt.
It also sounds like your #4 isn't firing. I would have thought it would have strobed, but at the wrong time.

I had it hooked up to the #1, the closest to the timing belt. . and I know it was working because I pulled the plug and the engine stalled.
Yes, I did change plugs, I am using Z6 plugs, shouldn't I be?

my mini-me did the same thing. it was smoking alot. i took the car to the track and it looked like i shot a fire extinguisher out of the exhaust. i am thinking that the block is not totally flat. it took like 2 days to scrape that paper gasket off of the crx block. maybe you didnt get all of the gasket off. i would take the block to get decked to make sure that it was flat. that should solve the problem.
I with peiku. Get it decked and make sure your head is perfectly flat too. Headgaskets give a lot of trouble on d series. A machine shop should give you an idea how off it is.
Or...
Pull the head and put a straight edge along the top the the block. And I'm talking a true metal (solid) straight edge. talke a feeler guage try and stick it under the straight edge where it contacts the top of the block. I forgot what the tolerence is, but you should get an idea of how off it is...if it is off. Do the same with the bottom of the head.

my mini me looked so after start the engine:

i had installed a 91 PM7 ecu. after change to the original PM6 ecu the smoke was gone.

i was converted to obd1 too and was using the p28 ecu. i kinda think that if you use the 88-91 crx/civic paper headgasket. it shouldnt smoke becus its not metal and is thicker. plus being paper, it might make up the space that a warped head/block has. that one of my theories but people say to use the vtec headgasket tho. just my 2 cents.
i use the metall Z6 headgasket. i will install the pm7 ecu this weekend. and i hope, that there is no smoke. i think the smoke come from the oil, which i used for installition.
