cant figure out why I am burning oil!!!!
ok long story short. H23 vtec
bought a built block form a guy with je pistons 11:5:1 compression, iron sleeved at oem bore
bought a head form another guy had it fully cleaned up looked at by machine shop changed all valves and seals and put in crower springs and retainers.
put it all together compression is 225 across the board and has a 2% leakdown rate.
drive it around and it runs PERFECT! no missing no studdering and has tourque
the damn thing burns 1 - 2 quarts of oil every week. I dont rev past 4000 at all because it is untuned. constantly puffs blue smoke.
I have checked the positive crankcase valve and al the other goodies in there. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS!
I am lost and dont want to have to rebuild it without knowing what the problem is. I pulled the head and it had a little carbon build up at the top of the cylinder walls but the walls other than that looked perfect no inconsistanceies no scratches or anything.
Remember the head was looked at by a reputable shop. What you guys think?

poor baby, how much did you add? sleeved and bored with higher JE should have more juice of oil than normal right? i guess so
but anyhow..let do a test....this take time
*next time do oil change record down how much you added....
*one week later....drain all the oil out put them back to original bottles....and compare....
*i didnt say that i didn't trust you about burning oil that much...but check oil pan stuffs..
*you sound like the motor is rebuil and need to be broken in...it need time to recovery it needs, newer motor tend to burn little more
*my gsr did that too..but it seems to be constatnt now
trust me and do the oil change technique above, drain and measure the oil loss

well the problem is that I have drove this motor for over 2000 miles already! The motor isnt completly new. I have been trying to figure this out since I first put it together.
And I know its burning oil because I can see it in my rear view constantly and everythime I shut it down and go around the rear its all I can smell.
And if I get on it I will probebly kill every insect within a square mile radious. That is no joke either. I smoke out the person behind me if Iget on it.

Yes it was broken in properly. Breakin in is kinda usless in my opinion but I did it regardless

well the compression test show your rings are find and the leak down show the valve are seating
so seal would be next bet and if they where replaced
then maybe the valve guides are worn
but when your showing 2% leakdown kind cancells out that possiblity
maybe your not burning your leaking.........

So that sorts out that idea. I am really at a loss for words. I dont know what the hell is wrong!

ok sorry for the shitty picture but to sum it up it looks like ***! oil on the bottom of the plug and tons of carbon build up! looks a little lean too. Any ideas?
By the looks of that plug, you're not burning oil.. this is what an oil fouled plug looks like (out of my car), and I didn't even burn all that much oil.
Look at the rest of your plugs, if they all look like that you're not burning oil, you're leaking it somewhere. Are all your fittings tight? You're not leaking/spraying oil out the back of the block when you're driving? (Not to insult your intelligence, but if your spark plugs all look like that, theres no why in hell you can be burning oil)
The plug doesn't look lean, looks great. Plugs are supoused to be a tan color, not too white, and not too much black carbon buildup.

hmmm. They have a decent amount of carbon buildup. And they are more white than tan. The picture sucks! Not to mention that plug isnt fouled out...the car runs great! Anyway. I aguess I will look for leaks but the car never has a puddle under it and it does smoke constantly.
I should make a video and post it up to show how much smoke there is if I rev it over 4 grand. I just put a quart of oil in it today AGAIN!

Sure, Take a good pic of all 4 of your plugs also. If you're not burning it in the cylinders, its going somewhere else. Look for pinhole leaks when oil pressure builds up. Could be a fitting, a pinhole in your oil filter... etc.
well I am off to work. I will take a pic of all 4 tomorrow or next week since I am going an vacation. Will update you.
