gsr or b16?
well i have a b16 in my 90'crx and i was talkin to the guy at this local shop and he said maybe one day i should upgrade to a gsr. i was like well i have heard that the gsr makes the same horsepower and has the same redline as a b16. what are the advatages of having a gsr over a b16? are they pertty much the same?
see i was thinking of building up a gsr with like all aftermarket stuff and it would be cleaner and stuff. so u think i should do that or just stay with the b16?
I upgraded from a cable tranny/b16 to a hydro lsd tranny/b18c. I am happy with the upgrade, the jdm b18 makes just about 180hp while the b16 made 160. Thats a nice upgrade. There is also more torque (about 15 more). Its a good upgrade, I reccomend it if you can afford it, also run obd1.
Its a much better starting point if you are going to build it up

If you've ever driven a b16 EF before, you'll love the added torque of a 1.8, even if 15lbs or whatever doesnt seem like much. It seems like a lot more when you actually drive it.
It's kinda nice having some low-end in a honda

I'm kinda new to Honda swaps but how about swapping in a CRV bottom end? You already have the B16 in place so why not? You can get the early CRV bottom end which lowers compression for FI or the later block for higher compression. Am I missing something?
why not go lsvtec, you already have a head/mainfold combo to use.
Just fine a used ls block, replace brearings and rod bolts and your good to go, make more hp and tq then b16 or gsr for less money

Why, when people put together a "Poor Man's R", do they use the B16 head? I thought the B16 head was better...but I dunno for sure. Someone set me straight please. I don't want to post mis-information.

b16 head is identical to an ITR head it just doesnt have the mild port n polish job form the factory.
GSR head is different from the b16 and ITR head. I cant get into specifics b/c i just dont know but the GSR head has a smaller combustion chamber which will give you a higher compression.
IMO go with a b16 head. GSR heads are alot more expensive than b16 heads b/c they are more rare. There are alot cheaper ways to raise compression (pistons, HG). With all the money you save from getting the b16 you can easily get high comp pistons and cams to match your new C/R.

First off, unless you are running a 2G JDM B16A in your car, you don't have the same HP as a GSR. The GSR actually has 10 more HP. Unless, of course, it is a JDM GSR, in which case it has 20 more HP. But more significant is the torque difference. Yes, it is only 17ft-lb more in the GSR. But, as someone else mentioned, the difference feels ALOT larger when you actually drive the car. Finally, there is upgradability. Simply put, the GSR has alot more potential for further power increases due to its larger displacement. 200WHP can be had without even removing the head. But this is going to be ALOT harder with a B16A.

but i dont know if i should go ls-vtec or gsr. i have a gsr head that has been ported and polished so i dont know if i should put it on a gsr block or a ls block. what would make good horsepower and hold up and not break. thanx for all the info please keep it coming.

Put it on the LS block. The LS crank is a much better crank. You will see better performance out of you head this way without doing some work to the gsr block
if you go ls-v get that built right, i hear alot of people breaking down and leaking oil, not to diss ls-v, i love it , but i didnt trust myself on building one and didnt know anyone who has built one that something didnt go wrong. but i hear there are some out there that has lasted a long time but i never seen it really for myself. i just went jdm gsr cuz i felt a little safer with the reliability.
