Default Transmission gremlin

Transmission freshly installed... having problems.
Anyone have an idea what might make this happen?

Neutral - pulls car forward
1st - can't get into first. It's like it's gated out. cna't force it in or anything.
2nd - Shifts in, but theres nothing there. Acts like neutral.
3rd, 4th, 5th - they seem ok, but not "sure". They all stall the engine when releasing the clutch slowly.
Revese - pulls the ar forward.

Neato huh?
I went through the tranny and replaced all the bearing and seals.
ZC gear set went in and SI FD was left alone.

It's coming out this week... no idea what to expect!

I'm guessing that you took apart your transmission and installed the ZC gears. If so, your gears probably aren't engaging correctly from what it sounds like.

You'll have to take apart the transmission and see what isn't sitting right, use the shift linkage while the transmission is open, make sure everything locks into its gear, then spin your mainshaft to see if it turns while in the gears.

It also helps if you have a working example like I did.

Good luck.

It's an auto to manual swap. It's used linkages, but I used all new hardware, bushings, and rebuilt the linkage as best as I could. In the gears it does shift to, there is no binding and it's all smooth.

Fresh oil just dumped in before this.

That's my guess too. I was looking in the service manual and it looks like first second and reverse engage different from 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I'm thinking that maybe 1st is stuck in place and not on the fork. When I push to 1st maybe I'm just pushing th fork into the selector. When I go to select 2nd, maybe it's not sliding to 2nd, but just moving to neutral. I'm not a tranny guru (yet... I'll try to be if I have to drop this tranny) so it's just guessing.

LOL is right!!!

I didn't forget any gears. That would be too easy to figure out.

1st is not accessable. I can't put the shifter in there at all. It's like trying to push your hand through a brick wall... not gonna happen.
It goes into 2nd... just neutral there though.

Why not unhook the shift linkage and manually put the car into gear. Then start the car up with the clutch in and see if that gear works.

I haven't super duper adjusted it. I had somebody look at it as I barely put my toe on the clutch pedal. The cable didn't move until I BARELY pushed on it. I figured that would be adjusted enough to get it running. From my driveway testing, the clutch works. I press down and it disengages. I let up on the pedal and it engages.

I'll tighten it up and see what happens before I start taking the tranny out.
I can't see the logic of how it how it will help though.

UPDATE - it's NOT the clutch cable.
By suggestions I tried it both tighter and looser.

Same issues.... almost. I lost 2nd completely when I tried it looser. Reverse was also a pain to get into like that.

Will find out tonight!
I yanked that beeeeoitch out last night (1.5 hours from jacking it up, removing axles, draining fluids... blah blah blah.... to closing up the garage and washing up).
Tonight I open it up and see what it is.

I actually hope there is something broken.
That would take some of the guess work out of it.
