East Coast People - Ultimate Adrenaline Rush
For those of you fairly close to North Carolina. The SCCA is having the annual Beech Mountain Hillclimb event May 17-18-19. Remember the feeling you use to get...you get out of the car, your hands shaking and your voice crackling and the adrenaline rush is just incredible. This event is the only time I get that feeling again, it's awesome and there is nothing like it. For those of you that haven't tried it, you should. Requirements: SCCA SOLO I safety equipment (SCCA Approved Bar, harness, SA-95 helmet, suit, gloves, boots and arm restraints). I think the only other person I know of is Scott (RoadRacer) that has participated on this board. Anyone want to know Scott's nicname after that event???

I wish. Looks like Beach Mt. is the first event on the calendar this year. I only have a novice solo 1 license and I don't think they let you run the Hillclib or Talladega Super Speedway until you have had a few events under your belt.
Lemme know if any of you guys are going to any of the other Solo 1 events next year. Since RoadRacer isn't running anymore, the bimmer guys are ruling DSP. Not that I will be able to fill RoadRacer's shoes.
Still wouldn't mind going to a few events.

You guys are just jealous because I went down in Beech Mountain history for getting some ***** at the finish line.
Jon, can you confirm whether or not the finish line will be moved down the hill to take the last corner out of the course? I've heard that is happening for safety reasons, and in my opinion, that was the best part of the course.
Zsolt, if you want to run it, I'll get you approved.
Let me know.

Yes you are correct, they are moving the finish line down a hundred feet or so. After the driver in the AS Mustang came through and took out the utility pole, the decision was made. You're right, that turn separated the men from the boys. There was just something about hearing Butch Kummer lift (you knew something was wrong) and see him come through the turn backwards at about 90+MPH, do three 360s and stay on the road. Did you ever get all the fur out of the car???
For those that have never seen or heard of the Beech Mountain Hillclimb. Imagine a very twisty road, then a pretty good incline, pretty nice wide paved road, most turns are sheer drop offs on one side and solid granite walls on the other. Now imagine having to carry the maximum amount of speed through every turn so you don't loose momentum. Now if you're curious about speeds...I was clocked at 87 mph in the speed trap. Butch Kummer in the GT-1 vette was clocked at 99 mph (note: 99 was the highest number the speed trap would respond). It is truly an awesome experience. Are there any wrecks...yes. Are there some awesome cars...oh yes (i.e. Hillclimb Special - car built just for hillclimb events - Ron Moreck's - car weighs 1200 lbs open wheel and has roughly 800 HP - has one huge wing that puts 1000 lbs of force down on the car so it sticks to the road.
Zsolt, they did allow a Novice SOLO I license last year, not sure if they will this year. Scott can hook you up on getting approved, or just let me know and I'll ask to have you approved.

Hey Jon,
I actually went through that last turn sideways my first time there. I was having trouble rotating at the bottom of the hill, so I fiddled with air pressure and turned the rear shocks up to full hard...
Worked great until I got into that last turn. Constant radius right hander, drop-off to the right and a rock wall to the left, and the rear end just slowly stepped out. All I could do was countersteer and keep my foot in it (which I did), but it came all the way around. Went about 100 feet sideways looking down the side of the mountain out my front windshield. Man... that was... not at all fun.
Still, it's a good event.
Jon, were you at the finish line last year when Fowler (yellow CRX) tripped the lights at the finish line on TWO WHEELS!!! We tried to snap a picture but we weren't fast enough.
