Just got a GSR.. Have a few questions
Im not new to this site... I totalled out my 5th gen prelude, I ran across a good deal on a gsr for 1900 so i took it.
Its a 94, and overall the car is in real good shape. The odometer reads 197k however It runs nothing like 197k, infact i suspect its not the origional engine.
Now you know the year and the mileage, on to my question.
When Im shifting hard, or droped the clutch a little, youll feel the motor jerk, More than I ever remember that was normal for my 5th gen.
It honestly makes almost a loud Boom. Do you think the motormounts are wearing out?Any other things for me to check?
Second question. How are these gsr transmissions? The one i have grinds pretty badly going into 2nd. It ONLY does if i drive it REAL hard. has to be over 5k rpm to do this.
Another detail, It wont do it as bad, if i hold the clutch in for a few seconds more.. It sounds like a synchro thats fucked, What does everyone think? Has anyone had one replaced? and if so, how much did you pay?
Thanks In advance
Anthony

I'd say with the big BOOM that you hear that its very likely possible that its a mount thats gone out especially considering the age of the car its not unlikely that the mount could be the problem. The gsr transmissions are good but as far as the grinding noise that is probably just from the age and abuse that was put on the car before you purchased it. Sounds like just a few minor fixes and your gonna be fine.
Well im still kinda sucky at driving, I swapped my prelude to a 5spd back in april, totalled it in june.
Basically Ive been driving a 5 speed for only a few months. I dont stall or anything... Im Trying to get use to driving the gsr without shuddering down low...
Ive had a real good driver look at it, He says the clutch is pretty good.
None of these issues are real bad, considering i paid 1900 for the car(Btw, Is 1900 good for a gsr In georgia?)
Anyway- I dont know what would be cheaper, to take the trans to a shop to have that 2nd gear fixed up, or to buy a used one off ebay or locally...
Installation labor and whatnot isnt an issue, I can do all that stuff.
Also, I know these questions always are asked, But Someone lowered the car, so i cant provide Anyone with how much it was lowered. I want to put some better rims on it, but i dont know what size to get.
The stockers are 195.75.15 and they dont appear to rub, so I guess if i can match that, Ill be good to go.
Last but not least, Are all honda seat bolt patterns the same? This car came with tenzo r seats and they are too tight for driving comfort for me. I Know someone with some nice black lude seats, and im wondering if they will bolt up?

I don't know if this would be of any help considering there's a 99% the problem is bad motor mounts, but try this...
pop your hood open, put your car into 1st (make sure car is off) let off you parking brake, now go out side to the front of your car and push it back and forth just enought to see how much or how bad your engine is moving due to bad motor mounts, also while doing this look at your mounts to see which one(s) are bad.

Thanks everone, Can someone advise me what wheel tire combo to get with the stock 195.75.15 combo?
Does anyone know about other honda seats bolting up?
Just trying to get some issues resolved

Well, the stock size is 195/55/15, so you would either want to go with that, or 205/50/15, or if you go up to a 16 inch wheel, get 205/45/16.
As for brand, if you have been on H-T for awhile, everyone uses Falken Azenis because they are a good tire, pretty well priced, but they tend to wear pretty fast. If you want something cheap and decent, get a Kumho 712 or maybe Falken Ziex or whatever they have on special.
As for the seats, I bet you could make the Prelude seats fit by using a similar approach to installing RSX seats in a teg. Just do a search for it in the archives. I think you would need to do some drilling and mount the prelude sliders instead of using the original Integra ones though.

what are your goals fro this car.....i smell a jdm b18c (gsr) swap, i mean you only spend 1900 on the car and you could fix up the engine and sell it for a couple hundred and then get a new motor.........
BTW did insurance give you any $$ back?

if you are adept enought to take the remove/install the tranny, and you have a helms, you should be able to change your second gear synchro without much trouble, and you can save a bit of cash for other things.
As far as tires go, I'd stay away from the khumo 712s. they are the noisiest, most obnoxious tire i've ever had. and from just a few months driving on them, i can honestly say the stock michelin xgt's has more grip, dry and wet. i've gone through two sets of dunlop fm901s, and though they may not be a popular tire, they easily outperform the khumo 712s in both wet and dry, and they're QUIET. Oh yeah - and you can drive in the snow with them and still have decent grip (for a tire that's not really winter-rated). I'll stop ranting now.
Seriously though, the tranny work shouldn't be that complex, just take your time, read the helms first, and make sure you have the tools.

Good deal, I ve been thinking of doing this.. Any idea of what parts itll take to fix the grind? Just the synchro? How indepth is the helms on covering this, and where can I get the parts, and the manual to show me... Any special tools ill need?
All the other gears are smooth.
Also, I noticed you got a lsd, Any particular instructions on installation with the trans out?
Id swap the seats with an integra owner, I dont know anyone in georgia or close to swap with other than this lude owner. Shipping on seats is like 140 bucks, since they are huge. So, Id prefer to have someone local.
