I have a 91 US civic Si with a jdm B16A 1st gen SiR motor. The problem started when I was driving from Arizona to Mass this summer I was going along and the engine cut out. When I started the car up again it would not rev past 3k rpms. After getting here a few days later the car started running fine again. Off and on for about two months the engine would cut out and then only let me rev past 3k for a day or so then go back to normal. Now the car will not even idle for longer than a minute or two, the CEL flashes and I hear the relay clicking the rpms drop to 0 then back up all in rhythem very rapidly. I changed the fuel filter and alternator and it ran fine again for a day but now it is not running again. Someone told me it sounded like the car was missfireing and to get the codes off my ECU by going to autozone to borrow their equipment. The autozone next to my house does not have any diagnostic tools and the other locations I checked do not loan it out they only can check it on site but the car wont get out of my driveway. The same person sugested that its probably the O2 sensor, my 2nd O2 sensor is not hooked up and I am unsure as to the location of the 1st, I have a B16A shop manual but the pictures are not very clear. Any sugestions or experiences with this situation would be helpful

 

under the carpet on the pass. side is the ecu...check the blink pattern of the ecu's LED and then post the code you get. You should easily be able to find what each code means on the net... I found this from searching "crx ecu codes" on google

I went out to play with the car this afternoon. It had been sitting for about a month now without me having a chance to touch it. When I started it up it idled low and very rough after about 10 min idle it cut off, no CEL came on. I started it back up and gave it some gas there was a sound like something was lose in the motor and it started to backfire some with a very rough sound to the motor like a lawn mower with the choke on too much. The motor cut out again but still no CEL. The way it acted today is different than how it was acting up earlier. The motor previously sounded good it was just cutting off, today the motor sounds bad but no CEL. Checked oil its still the right level and looks clean, checked plugs they are dark black, when I checked the plugs a couple weeks ago they were white. I've not drove the car any between the two times, I only had it idle a bit today.

 

were the plug dark black???or was it oil???

IF the battery has not been unhooked or dead since throwing the CEL, the ecu will still blink the check code...check that still too
