Default Day time running lights ...

I know a few people have had some interest in DRL and I thought I would post this up since its pretty affordable and seems to fit what everyone wants/needs.

http://www.autobarn.net/des20013.html

If anyone does get them let me know how they work.

that kit is design to work with low beam

if you install it on the high beam , it will be too bright
I have yet to find an aftermarket kit that is made for the high beam

I don't like DRL's, if you need to be seen just use the headlights.

It's worth it just for the insurance discount.

Word, waste of energy. Why lower your gas mileage? Theres a reason the USDOT has not made it mandatory.

Agreed. I disconnected mine by accident, lol! Also if you were to buy the oem bulbs from Acura they are $110 I believe.

If there is a benefit of an insurance break then I don't see why it would hurt. I'd rather people see me then be in stealth mode. If your doing it just because they look good, what's stoping you from just flipping on your headlights? Your hand is a mere 2 inches way from the switch. Don't be lazy!

What does DRL's have to do with gas mileage?

The reason its not mandatory is the manufacturers fight it because it costs money on every new car. NHTSA of course thinks we're all going to die without them.

Could you rewire the headlight switch to have them turn off when the car is shut off?

The Turbo Pig is like that - lights are only on when the ignition is on. So I just leave the switch in the on position all the time.

Having the lights on uses more electricity, the electricity is generated by the alternator which thereby requires more power from the engine to generate that power, this in turn causes the engine to consume more fuel, since it is having to supply more power.

Did ya think the electrical power in cars was free?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most car headlights run straight off the battery? Which the alternator charges at a more or less constant rate (ie alternator output doesn't increase just because you're bumping jamz)?

No, only the 2 outer lights come on when you turn on the headlights.

You live in Rockland Co. Depending on where in Rockland you live people may have to use their brights to see upcoming deer and rednecks toting shotguns.
Or maybe their headlights are burnt out.
Or they could just be jerks who always keep their brights in.
