4.98 Wot .07 Idle. TPS, Adjust or Replace? How do you access lower screw?
Long story short. Measured my tps. Its 4.98 WOT which I read was perfect and .69-.70 at idle. Should I adjust it or replace it?
I need to have this solved tomorrow afternoon because its my girlfriends aniiversary and my car cant be not running for out date.
I have no idea how the **** to access the lower screw, I know you have to slice it but how the **** would you with its right up against the firewall, under the t/b and out of sight?
I also dont have a dremel so how would i try it? Thanks

hmmmm, Ive never removed the t/b myself before. Cant be more than a few hoses and connections right?
I guess that mean I gotta grab my socket set from my bud, and a new throttle body gasket

UHH, what is wrong with your readings where you need to pull your t/b off??
Those readings are fine....??? more info perhaps...maybe im not understanding/getting the full story here?

The readings are supposed to be .45-50 Idle and 4.5-5.0 Wide open.
My wide open is right on the high but my idle is .20 over, thus causing my high and bouncing idle. So I have to adjust the tps
To adjust the tps you have to cut a slit in 2 rivets so you can spin them, the second rivet is pack under and out of sight, thus I need to take the t/b off
Im not gonna do it today though, tomorrow morning or possibly tonight at around midnight when I get home if I feel up to it
So any help til then will be appreciated

First off, the margin for error with your idle concern is fine, You have to understand your engine is old, theres more resistance in your electrical system then when it was brand new, voltage measurements at sensors may not be perfect....

Also check out your IAC it prob. needs cleaned also why your tps is in fact messing up, your throttle is closed at idle of course, but the bypassed air in the IAC is not being distributed correctly causing an irradic idle.....
Mine was the idle screw, could be more with yours, couple ?'s
Does it do it on cold start-up immediatly?
does it do it after the car is warmed up?
Will it do it at any idle no matter what or intermittingly?
The first thing I would do I try to adjust the tps if your dead set on that being the fault before replacing it anyways.....

To fix this you need it sending the right voltage when the throttle is closed.
There will be three wires going to the TPS.
The Green one is a ground
The yellow one is constant 5V
The red one fluctuates between 0 and 5V depending on how open or closed the throttle is.
You need to connect the voltmeter to the ground wire and the other one to the fluctuating wire by exposing some of the wires. Loosen the screws and shift the TPS around until it gives a voltage of 0.45 Volts when the throttle is CLOSED. It doesn't matter what it says at open throttle.
The harness must be plugged into the TPS which must be attached to the TB, therefore it is much easier to do this with the TB removed.
If you need to adjust the TPS, loosen the two small bolts holding it on and turn it either way until it gives the correct voltage. Some TPS's are attached with rivets instead, in this case you will need to use a Dremel tool or similar to remove it. If there are rivets holding it it is most likely still set from the factory and will not need setting.
If you need to adjust you idle, turn the idle adjustment screw with a flat blade screwdriver. If the screw is loose you may need some silicon to hold it still like I have.

IACV is cleaned, idle screw is all the way in but still get a bouncing high idle
I check the tps and its out of adjustment, So Im gonna adjust it tonight if I can think of a way to move the rivets, unless of course I can just grab em with my needle nose vise grips and turn then Ill do that
Ill try doing it blind for 20 min before I resort to taking the t/b off
Im off to get some action, wish me luck
