Default Can you use a non-obd distributor in place of a dohc vtec (b16) distributor?

Question:
Can I use a non-obd (1990 CRX Si) distributor in place of a non-obd DOHC VTEC (b16) distributor? My ignitor went out, and to my luck I had my SOHC distributor laying around. I opened it up to see if i can just swap the ignitors, and they looked virtually the same. So what I did was cut off the leg (like how people cut off LS distributor legs) that got in the way of the vtec solenoid. Should this work? Any help is appreciated.

Why didn't you just swap the ignitors? Then you wouldn't have needed to hack the D16 distributor.
