VTEC wasn't engaging all the time, So I removed the solenoid and housing to clean the screen. Well the screen was all gumed up and I found alot of metal shavings in it to. This was the oval screen on the housing where it meets the block. What would cause these metal shavings? And will these metal shaving get into my crankcase oil? I looked at my dipstick really close and didnt see any shavings but It sucks to find the shavings in the screen. Any help is appreciated by the way the engine is a H22a...Thanks

 

Don't know what to tell you about the shavings in the solenoid but you can pick up a magnetic oil drain bolt from your local autoparts store for pretty cheap, which should catch shavings in your oil if there are any.
