Default Protecting #1013

Looks like my car is moving out of its secure garage in DC. I will probably be parking it on the street/in the condo parking lot.

An alarm won't do chit, I think. I need something that will make the car undriveable. Detachable steering wheel? Kill switch? Those seem like the best options. Autolock et al. seems like a waste of time and money.

Any ideas? Parking boots? Let 'em fly.

let it get stolen, thats what I'm hoping for...then I don't have to worry about it. I always park outside in NoVA.....one day I'll get lucky.

I don't believe I've done either of those things.

"Hey thieves! Be on the lookout for a car that isn't in DC anymore!" ****, I'm screwed.

If you're going to upgrade your alarm make it a Clifford. It doesn't have to be a space aged model. Something simple that has all the wireless additions i.e. starter, immobilizer, fuel cut and wireless siren with its own power cell.

I have also been known to chain the R to the floor when i'm out of town for a few days.

1) Upgrade your alarm
2)Put in manual kill switch to fuel pump
3)Get steering wheel w/ detachable hub
4)Take off all four wheels and put on jack stands
5)Run chanin through suspension pieces and lock to solid structure.
6)Remove all interior pieces of value and keep in appt.

With all six of these VERY EFFECTIVE! ideas, it is almost guaranteed that your car will not get stolen. Hell some other resident might call the cops to say that someone dumped a car in the parking lot that you live in.

Seriously though...I like the idea of the steering wheel and the manual kill switch to the fuel pump. Both have worked for me. In the past week, I've seen three different posts on thefts on HT. That would be enough to scare the fear into me to take proper precautions. Good luck.

Kill switches hidden like whoa and a detachable steering wheel should be goodness. A pager alarm would be a good idea too.

You are right, over time some one might steal it. However, I think it's worth the money to make it as hard as possible. How many thiefs carry around an extra steering wheel, or plenty of tools to jerk a back seat out to get to the fuel pump wiring, or better yet, take the time to find the manual kill switch, trace it out, cut and splice?

The more precautions you take, I feel, the better off you will be. It would definately help me sleep better at night knowing my car was locked up like Ft. Knox.

Actually, I cannot remember where I saw it...one of the import mags, but there is a company that are making locks that cover the steering wheel hub. It fully covers the hub and the sides of it so a thief (if he had a hub and wheel with him) couldn't simply unbolt it and install his ****. I remember it's made out of some gnarly *** metal so it's pretty indistructable. Damn...now I have to go find the article so I can post the companies link. I'll post it up soon.

The manufacterer of the alarm doesn't mean much...the installation is the key as to how hard it is to steal a car....you can put the biggest baddest alarm system on a car, and if it's brain is in an easily accessible location, it's worthless...installation is very very important....

Okay....the Hub Lock. Designed and made by a company called Splash and is sold by a company called Pro-Motion Distributing. Small write up in Import Tuner September 2004...has the very large breasted Tera Patrick on the cover.

Compatable with MOMO or Nardi steering wheels. No price listed.

I couldn't find much more information accept the company is based in Japan. The distributor for this product can be reached at:
phone: (626) 333-1400
fax: (626)-333-4011
Pro Motion Distributing
507 S. Coralridge Place
City of Industry, CA 91746

That's about all I could find on the ol' internet. I think I may call these guys Monday and order a kit.

Kill switches and all that crap don't work. A good thief can by pass all of those in under 10 minutes. Just get Lo-Jack so when they steal it, you can track those bitches down.

I agree. We had alarms, we had lojack, we still lost our R's. And as the police told me, even if you make it undriveable, 1 jack, 4 wheel dollys and a box truck around the corner equals another stolen car.
As for the GPS tracking... its great. Even if it cannot connect to a satelite, it uses triangulation via cell towers. And the option packages are a must. I can go online, pull up the GPS map, look at it and say "Yep, my car is still in the garage." I love it.

What do you pay for this service out of curiosity?

RS door handle bezels and a fuel pump kill switch will help keep the amateurs off it.

I would recommend you find something indoors and cough up the extra cash if you are in the situation to do so. Better for your peace of mind, now and in the future. Be stealthy and smart about the wereabouts of the R. Good luck and keep it safe.

Good insurance coverage.

Thats all i've done along w/ the RS Door bezels. If they want it, they're going to take it. I park mine on the street most of the time - have had no problems. It is not worth $500+ alarms and losing sleep over.

Why do you post at all? All your responses are totally pointless and some of them are just you being a total smartass....grow up.

Alarm is just a part of the security SYSTEM...if installed right, it can buy you a few extra minutes...if layered with something else, it can keep a thief occupied for a while...time = people looking, thief panicking, thief giving up...

So stop being a ***** and actually know what you're talking about before you open your mouth...

Ross, just park it out here in the country. When you need it, take the train or Kluge's helicopter.
