Well im guessing you live in cali? ANYWAY the tranny has nothing to do with it so dont worry about that. People get ls rexes passed all the time they just have trouble passing vtec rexs. Just make sure its clean looking under the hood, get a vaccum diagram and make sure everything is perfect and easy to find. As long as the motor is newer then ur car so 90-95 then ur good to go. Its easier to pass a 90-91 motor because its obd0 but the obd1 will pass and obd2 i think i read about 1 that has passed. Alot has to do with the tech you get too just clean it up make it nice and run perfect and be a kiss ***...I have an ls rex too i just havent take it to the smog refs either. If i wasnt a poor little bastard then i could buy everything i think needs to be replaced....

if you want to pass it get it reffed. stage 1 cams usually pass smog with no problem (usually). any aftermarket bolt ons should be made for that motor and be carb legal. and make sure all vacuum lines and sensors and smog equipment are properly hooked up.

its really not that hard to get a swap to pass reff tech... the only ones who have to worry are the people who ghetto rigged the swap or are running something illegal like a ZC or LSvtec.
